As you may have seen the proposal being mooted by .......... no names mentioned but I'm guessing 2 relatively local clubs! Basically it's to shoehorn "colts" into the league setup.
The plan is allegedly to introduce league 3 into the SPFL and initially it would have 12 teams comprising 4 Lowland League sides, 4 Highland League sides and 4 "Colts" Rangers, Celtic plus maybe Hearts, Hibs or Aberdeen?
Few details are available but current Lowland League top dogs Kelty Hearts are supposedly up for it.
No timescale has been mentioned either but one thought on the proposal is that teams at the foot of league 2 (do they mean us?) would have a less severe drop although I presume it would be a definite drop and not a play-off scenario and who knows maybe even 2 teams.
With talk about 42 teams being too many not so long ago it's clearly planned just to enable the "big boys" to batter the rest of us into submission.
One thing's for sure the travelling would be interesting with the 8 new teams being brought (top 4 from both league as at today) from the current 5th tier being located in Kelty (Fife), East Kilbride, BSC Glasgow (Alloa). Edusport (Annan), Cove (near Aberdeen), Fraserburgh, Brora and Inverurie.

Normally I’d slaughter ideas like this, but marooned at the bottom I’d grab this with both hands if it were genuine. Could be the difference of there being an Albion Rovers in any recognisable form in the future, because we’re heading to the LL where we will find better run clubs with far greater resources such as EK, Kelty , Cumbernauld, Spartans. We will struggle badly to compete with the loss of spfl cash

It's a terrible idea. Extending the league in this way would save whoever finishes bottom from dropping out of the SPFL and is against all sense of fair play and......er......competition and.......er.........might result in a long standing member of the league being dealt with in a reasonable and entirely justified manner by ensuring they were not too harshly punished for just one calamitous season. As I was saying, it's a great idea.

You cut your cloth to suit the situation you can't chance the goalposts and allow colt taems into the setup just to save your own skin

There have been many factors as to why the club is where it is- let's be honest ithas been totally self inflicted. That money was frittered away on high wages while club officials ran about in leased motors and the club landed with leased photocopiers (why does the club need two photocopiers). Last years relegation and the totally bonkers appointment at the start of the season just tops the lot. The whole colts thing has been a disaster in the Challenge cup which is totally ruined now , this is the league trying another avenue. For the big picture of Scottish football it is totally wrong.

I honestly think the powers that be thought they could drop an to the second division and sit there comfortably, I don't think they are prepared for what awaits them in the lowland league either.

Sorry not to good at this posting thing.
I must have been out the day the leased cars were being handed.
Being involved at Albion Rovers has only every cost me money and a considerable amount of time - which I am only to happy to give.

The club accounts had car expenses ( amounting £3600 if I remember correctly) the year after the £400k windfall from the cup money. I don't recall this as an expense when Frank, Lew and Robert Watt were there. I appreciate that you put money into the Rovers Terry I really do-I'll bet you weren't the only one either which begs the question after a couple of years of the windfall why were directors having to put money in ( for stadium repairs I'm guessing). Overspending- pure and simple which led to am emergency loan and then for the first time in my memory the club asking shareholders for short term loans and donations and that was just for running costs. On the park we have been really successful in that time but it has proved completely unsustainable.

Sorry I am rubbish at this. My issue is your comment would suggest people like were running about in cars paid for by the club - I may be wrong but the cost was to cover fuel and insurance for 2 vehicles the club got for free including the van. The biggest expense on the stadium was carrying out the void repairs in 2014 - if we hadn’t the ground would have been closed. The club is in the position it is in, any help we could get would be greatly appreciated - my job is to help keep it open and safe. Whilst on garden leave last November I joined the Thursday club for 9 weeks - they do an incredible job, so come and help us if you can. If you believe it’s overspending then that’s your opinion and your entitled to it.
