It’s that time again Rovers are crying out for a decent striker, Gemmell needs a club.....
The big man has been with Camby Rangers for a few seasons now. He has played a total of 64 games and scored 57 goals. This season he’s played 22 games and scored 27 goals....
I’m sure we have all read in the forums or the papers regarding the going ons at camby, I’m informed that all players are free to go.
It’s written in the stars for the big man to return and fire the goals to lead us to safety.
C’Mon rovers get him signed!!!

His advancing years should be no barrier - look at 36 year old Defoe at Rangers. Could be an inspiration for the young lads around him - big John that is !

Take Saturdays first half, loads of possession and balls into the box. No one on the end of anything. A real threat at set pieces. A no brainer if it's possible.

The big man would love it. All that needs to happen is to pick up the phone to get the ball rolling.....

Also, I think if it were to happen having him back in the team would definitely get a few of the old fans who haven’t been going recently back to the games....

So........... I remember sitting at the JB 'meet the manager' event where he said: "I can do what Gemmell does" and thinking how utterly f*cking disrespectful that was.
The goal return looks awesome tbf and I agree that with all the good balls Mikey is putting into the box that John would thrive on that kind of service.
I know John is on here and he'll probably batter the f*ck out me for this but just a couple of things........ I've genuinely no idea what standard the juniors is at just now. I don't watch any of the teams there - apart from our own beloved Rovers lol! We have tried signing from the lower reaches of that pool and look how that worked out?!?! If Cambuslang are a decent standard and playing teams of a decent standard then that would be a good indicator.
The other thing is I'm happy to trust Kevin's judgement here. I didn't think he was an inspired appointment but he's done well so far both with getting rid of some of the dross and replacing it with a far better standard - all relative of course. And plenty more to go. And the team look competitive for the first time this season.
So it's really over to Kevin for me.
Just heading to bed now but I'll make sure the burglar alarm is on before that so my windows have a better than even chance of still being intact in the morning, ha!

The managers decision of course but what better incentive for the big man than shoving brogan's words where the sun don't shine. Got behind brogan as you have to but it turned out to be a total car crash. Never forgot those I'll advised comments though. Big john could probably have done better than he did as a manager!

I'd def roll the dice with the big man. Would be good to get him back in as an option.

Is this a new thread or have we just 'bumped' one of the older threads on exactly the same subject ?
When we say bring him 'home' we'd probably need to clarify with him where home is because off the top of my head I reckon he has had 9 or 10 senior clubs.
Are the people clamouring for him back the same people who said JB's policy of signing players from the Juniors was deeply flawed ?
Good news is if Big John came back we wouldn't need to be bother with a contract as he was always first out the door at the end of the season whenever any other club came calling.

Big John is a cult hero to many of us and his proudest achievement was winning the league with us. He never let us down and would have done even more given the chance by Darren young. To us he would be coming home and to have him back would be a blast. He can do a job for us where we need it. He also isn't a low level junior ala brogan. He is an experienced player who has been there and done it. Suppose someone had to have a moan seeing as you can't have s go at the board just now.
