Yes I will continue to have a sense of humour otherwise I would live my whole life in misery like you lot. On a football note the final blunder if this season was not getting John gemmell back. Fair chance that these 1-0 defeats would have been turned into much needed points.

A calamitous oversight.

No disrespect to John but one player, kitted out like the six million dollar man, astride a trusty steed on illegal stimulants, wearing an invincibility cloak, carrying Harry Potter's wand, armed with three wishes with the genie of the lamp riding side saddle whilst accompanied by Hercules himself couldn't have saved our season.
Just saying really.

True, but his `never say die` attitude could have rubbed off on those around him. Alas, that`s something we will never know.

At the risk of making myself even more unpopular, for me this is the 'Bobo Balde' effect. The more big Bobo was left out the Celtic team, the better a player he became.
Latterly John couldn't get a regular game with us as first pick - and that was a few years ago. His disciplinary record wasn't fantastic either and we need 11 on the pitch all the time - as a minimum. I wouldn't have been at all surprised that someone like John who cares for the club just being that wee bit over exuberant and it maybe coming out all wrong. Referees didn't usually need to find much wrong before taking his name or getting the cards out.
Being all positive and exuberant around the majority of the squad isn't going to turn them into good players. Nor is shouting stuff at them from the stands - good or bad. They just aren't good enough talent-wise. It's just about that simple really.

Think we should remember who left him out of the team. Darren 'ego' Young. He should have been playing. He also did the dirty on Ciaran. He should have been playing as well at that time. The kind of players we are crying out for. Big John could do the job and is what we are crying out for. Not an eighteen year old loanee.

Aye, DY had his `favourites` and neither John nor Ciaran were his - maybe they were too outspoken in the dresing room.

I really don't get this DY hate-fest. Darren won us the league ffs! Yes he had money to spend but so have plenty of managers at plenty of clubs and they haven't all won the league!
There's a certain element of re-writing history going on. John was one of a few striking options we had that season including Ally, Squib and others lost in the mists of time and wasn't first choice from very early in the season. Rovers won the league that year so was Darren right or wrong?
Similarly with Ciaran. Most of his involvement with the club pre-dates mine so I can't comment other than on what I saw...... namely a rock solid defence with Reidy at RB, Kyle on the left and the Dunlops in the centre. The one game I remember Ciaran coming in for was the 3-3 game v Clyde at home where he got sent off after about 5 minutes! For someone who was getting a chance to come in that was a mental way to behave. He didn't really kick a ball for us after that and if I was manager at the time I wouldn't have changed the set up we had. Our defence was rock-ish solid that year - certainly compared to now and the league was won. So again, was Darren right or wrong?
Just because the manager's favourites aren't the fans favourites doesn't make them bad people. Difficult decisions are made in all walks of life and you stand or fall by them. I wasn't DYs biggest fan but as I said, he won us the league and in some style too. If this is how we're judging him a few years on then god help Brogan!

Erm......Ciaran and Darren played in the same position so it stands to rights that player/manager was going to pick himself. File under "that's football" . Personally I thought Darren lacked class in his handling of the situation. Ciaran will always be a Rovers legend. Darren won the league with Rovers( the least you would expect on a £25k a year contract). By the way I might be wrong but the championship team were all Wardy's signings withthe exception of Kyle Turnbull and Ross Davidson with Eddie Ferns and Chris Cadden on loan. Fair play to Dazza he still had to do the business with a large chunk of thr credit going to Sandy Clark.

But who was the better player? Darren was done and should have stayed in the dugout and let Ciaran do his job. Again all about his ego. Old ground now but still rankles.

we would have not won the league if it wasnt for John, he came up with some huge goals the winner against Arbroath at Cliftonhill being one and he made the difference in the second half at Clyde. Fair play about Ciaran not being a regular that season because the Dunlops are better defenders but he was club captain who gave his all to Albion Rovers for 10 years he should have been there to lift the cup not out on loan in the jrs
