An interesting piece by the Chairman of Stenhousemuir.....take time to read it...
www.stenhousemuirfc.com/2019/05/14/chairmans-end-of-season-review/
I would highlight this bit in view of the recent comments about the `community` on this board.....
“Our community programme continues to flourish and we are looking to grow this part of the club this coming year. Our mental health team were recognised by FIFA last season for this ground breaking programme that we run in conjunction with Forth Valley mental health nurses. This, along with the hundreds of kids, and people of all ages, who are now playing football in teams at Ochilview is a great source of pride for us. Yes Hire has signed a 5 year partnership deal to become the principal sponsor of our community programme. I’d like to place our thanks on record to them for this fantastic support. Not only does this allow us to support and grow our extensive community programme, but it means we are looking to introduce a new Rewards Scheme for young community programme members. Our young people will be the next generation of players, supporters, volunteers, board members and sponsors, so we want to introduce new ways to make them feel rewarded for being part of our club. We are actively looking into creating a family section in the stand, and we’ll provide further information about this as plans develop. We are also about to launch our new Coaching Academy programme for young adults from the community. This is a coaching pathway for young people that will give them new skills, experience and qualifications that will be invaluable not only to Stenhousemuir Football Club, but to the whole community as these young people can get involved in a range of different activities and groups. “
.......and all this from a club just relegated

Chris said....
"The rovers dont need to start a youth system to try get new fans. They need to concentrate on keeping the ones they have, why try attract a kid who might come a few times and never be back, try keep people like me happy and the fans that are here happy because then I will bring my kids jd brings his kids even prof brings his kids"

1 huge difference between ourselves and Stenny... artificial pitch. So unless you are advocating a very unpopular change in the playing surface then it’s not a fair comparison (or level playing field if you like a wee pun).
If you are talking about that, then you need to come up with £500,000 to get a surface.

That`s correct of course......where did Stenny get the funding for that ? Just had a wee look at their last published accounts on Companies House.....they seem to do very well with Government Grants....

You can grow your community involvement and apply for grants etc that is how these clubs like Stenny do it. But that wasn't all put up over night. I presume it would have took a lot of involvement from the club and a plan and structure and A-LOT of perseverance. But i am sure the club have explored all avenues of this and its not doable at Albion Rovers, which is fair enough. Also it does not necessarily have to be your stadium pitch which gets the astro surface.

Just on another point...I found it very refreshing to have a Chairman posting a comprehensive report on his club`s website (he`s getting a bit of praise on P & B btw - and not just from Stenny fans). Be good if Rovers chairman could do likewise. Our previous Chairman posted regularly on the club`s website but since he stood down, nothing.

Of the players? Yup every time we played away at an artificial pitch, players don’t like them. I don’t like them, as in my opinion they cause more injuries. Any fan I’ve spoke to (of any club) would rather watch their team play on grass than astro...
So unless it’s been a huge coincidence, I would suggest that my original statement stands.

Players and staff (at any club) are transient and whilst their opinions may be considered (and I understand where you are coming from), it is the Directors, as custodians of the club on behalf of the shareholders who have to consider what is best for the long term future of the club, with respect to income streams etc. Maybe Chris can correct me but isn`t there 10 or 12 SPFL clubs with artificial surfaces ? Of course there is the initial outlay...but you have to look at the benefits it has brought to the likes of Stenny and Montrose.

I understand what you’re saying, but if it’s purely to increase revenue streams, perhaps rather than playing on a plastic pitch the club could look at the dead ground behind both goals and perhaps convert one or both sides into 5’s or 7’s pitches.
This way you get an income from the pitch hires but you still get to play on grass, every one’s a winner.

It was seriously considered a few years ago and a number of things were put in way apart from the cost was there are lots of facilities similar in coatbridge so income would be nowhere near that of forfar and stenny, the fact airdrie stadium is 3 miles away with far superior changing and parking facilities would stop the likes of cup finals usage and also added to the cost was alot more groundwork to be done under the park to make it suitable for a plastic park, The negatives far outweighed the positives
