Most impressed with Daniel tonight in goal against Airdrie in the first half. Three outstanding saves. And he's grown a few inches. Well done Daniel.

I was not impressed with either keeper-neither of them commanded their penalty box,or inspired confidence.

Agree. Cant see young Potts making it this year either. The other keeper didnt seem too commanding either. Or was I just spoiled by PJ?

No matter who was brought in, coming in to replace PJ would always be a hard act to follow

I wasn't at the game last night but the goalkeeping situation is the only real doubt I have about the coming season. Probably because of our recent history. Berwick fans slagged Goodfellow off , in all honesty I don't yhink any keeper could have kept a clean sheet with that defence. And Potts Im afraid isn't upto it - mistakes and fumbles galore. I have a feeling we will be dipping into the loan market this season again.

Loan market is fine if we get the right player. Probably lacking an out n out striker as well. Anyway, light years ahead of last year and something to look forward too.

Absolutely agree. It's night and day compared to last years omnishambles. I would trust Kevin and Joe to get the eight players with the budget they have.

Cannot believe the negativity on this forum. I was merely giving praise where praise is due and trying to encourage a young lad who is trying his best for Albion Rovers. Daniel is by no means perfect, unlike myself, but he has improved immensely since last season. Ignore the doomers and gloomers Daniel. You played great. Keep it up.

He made 3 good saves
He fumbled two crosses that he should have held

He may not be the best in the world but certainly not the worst. Have seen him have some good games but he could play like Gordon Banks and still get sniped at. For some reason he isn't liked. Can only think he stole their toys when they were weans!

Peter McClurg It's not negativity . It's an opinion. I have certainly seen enough of Daniel over the last 2 years or so. Please bare in mind our complete failure to deal with our goalkeeping situation 2 years ago cost us our place in League 1 when we were the 3rd highest scorers in the division. Certainly not doom and gloom just a slight nervousness about an extremely important position in the team. Kevin and Joe's opinion is way more important than mine

I think I've seen just about every game Potts has played for the first team the last few years and there is no doubt hes improved but I think hes still way off the standard for this level.
He had a couple of decent saves the other night but also a couple of rash decisions. One of his great saves actually came from him misjudging a cross and having to tip it over. No fault of his own that's hes been chucked in in rough situations over the last couple of years but I think at his level and age he isn't what a team like us which lets face it is going to be under a lot of pressure needs.
As Bucky pointed out the inability to deal with the keeper situation costs us a few years ago ( i was having flash backs at Alloa on Saturday to a cross come goal). So its not a position we can afford to let people grow into unfortunately.
That all said Peter is right in respect that the guys only 20 which is nothing for a keeper and is trying his best, i would think going out on loan and being someones number 1 for a season might be the best for him at this stage.

I mentioned at the tale end of last season that the goalkeeping position has been our Achilles heel for the last few years. We have had Derek Gaston/Neil Parry and Ross Stewart as stalwarts , but often or not have had to rely on the loan system for some stability- we should try to get a bit of experience in to support the squad along the Rab Douglas type that Forfar had - is there a 35 year old out there that has had a good 15 years in the seniors ? money may be the stumbling block - but lets try

As had been alluded to in previous posts we lost our league 1 status because Brian Kerr was not allowed to bring in (on loan - on the emergency set up)by the then Chairman, when Bowman dropped out out. Throwing young Potts in at the `deep end` at that time was just unfair and plain wrong and totally unfair to the young lad. Would we have survived and kept our league status last season but for JP`s heroics ?.....questionable. Not convinced that the problem has been addressed for the coming season. Time will tell.
