Already some clubs have scrapped these in Scotland. Queen's Park have had an online prog for a few years now.
Brechin scrapped theirs as did Airdrie, Stirling Albion and Peterhead. Some favouring a match magazine for the month covering all games. I understand some have been reinstated (Stirling and Airdrie I think) and apologies for the quite likely errors and omissions in my list.
On a simple printing costs less income from sales our programme loses the supporters' trust a fair amount of cash each season but there are other considerations such as adverts for club sponsors which the trust doesn't get paid etc.

For me a programme is part of the match day experience but I guess us `oldies` have to move with the times

No we don't; that's why we are still doing it. You are absolutely correct: the programme is essential. I will do one on my various typewriters and photocopy them at work if we ever stopped doing it.

This lad is talking about using the 5G network to publicise his match day experience, ffs it’s Coatbridge we’re from, the dark ages don’t seem that long ago

When the supporters club restarted the programme back in 1970-71 that`s how it was done David....using a wee typewriter to type up a `skin` then running it off on a`Gestetner` machine. Originally done in the development club shop on Bank Street, then carried on when this moved to Sunnyside Road. The cover sheet- with a few adverts - was printed by Williamson the printer with the single sheet insert being stapled into the cover sheet. Original price 6d....2 1/2 pence. Happy days....the typing was done by Netta McBride (now George Melville`s missus) and Helena Quinn with folks like Davie Purvis, Donnie Hutton and myself assisting. Then up to the Goric for a few beers after the job was done !

All very interesting, but there was no compelling argument about why 5G or any other technological advances should mean the death of the match programme - they can co-exist side by side.
Rovers produced programmes from 1946-56 - and then none at all from 1956/57 until the 70-71 season. That means a huge hole has been left in the club's history e.g. there is not a single Rovers home programme where where Tony Green is included in the line up (just a handful of away ones).
Those early 70's programmes are invaluable as they are virtually the only souvenirs of those matches, as few photos (if any were taken), players' shirts or other artefacts have survived, never mind the fact that there were certainly was no filming of the highlights, goals or anything else.
The programmes for the last few seasons have been the best in the club's history in terms of quality and content, and long may they continue.

Always get a programme at the games and Rovers have had some superb efforts over the years.
I always loved that late 70's one with the illustrated Rovers player in front of the main stand with the Rovers ballboy in Red.Your era Grant ?

Indeed, Tommy, my era......me putting it together and fellow Rovers fans the Morrow brothers (not forgetting Liddle Morrow`s wife) doing the setting, printing, folding and stapling in a double garage at the back of their house in Calder Avenue.

Do find that a bit strange and perhaps the club should maybe cover the loss, finances permitting. Wouldn't imagine its a huge amount on the scale of things.

As pretty much 100% of Trust money goes to the club I don’t see the point.

As pretty much 100% of Trust money goes to the club I don’t see the point. Yes in the long run but short term it may mean the loss of the programme if it doesnt break even, Then with that the club may lose money from loss of advertising And trust would lose player sponsership which would be couple grand All a big knock on effect As well as the trust being a totally separate entity to the club therefor has it's own books to balance if the trust run the programme why do the club have a say in it, if they want to put stuff in they should cover part of the cost Why not just hand the entire bank account over to the club now
