The big man has signed for Clyde.
He has asked me to post this on his behalf:
It's with a heavy heart that I leave Albion Rovers tonight. I would like to thank the fans who have supported me throughout my time at the club and of course the greatest achievement in my football career in winning the league last season. I hope I will be welcomed back at any time, whether as a fan or opposition. All the best.

The Beast will always be welcome at Cliftonhill and every fan would agree with that. Big concern though as our squad is getting less and less. Fair enough we signed an under 19 but the team looked really poor on Saturday. I know Peterhead are the form team but conceding 5 goals was a shambles. Young should visit some junior clubs and have a good look....fear for us now up front unless Ally Love can bang them in (That's if young starts him)

Can only wish big John all the best. Clyde's gain is our loss and a big loss at that. He will be welcome back any time and he leaves great memories. There should have been more memories but instead the management and club have blundered and our attempts to stay up will suffer. Who will score our goals now as we have no-one up to even tying the big mans laces. Gutted. Should have dumped conman Barraloads instead but then who would want a dud.

Can't blame John. Probably like every player he just wants to play regularly. He didn't feature that often last season either to be fair, especially towards the end. Not sure Clyde is the right club for him but who knows. The surprise for me is that he didn't leave earlier than this.
Good luck John.

I am a bit put out by John moving, a real character, I can see why he did, just wish he had stuck around.
I was lucky enough to be down for the Arbroath match at Coatbridge when the Arbroath supporters were giving John a hard time, some thing along the lines of 'You fat b......' and of course John scored a late winner and ran all the way over to them and waved his belly at them much to everyone's amusement even the Arbroath supporters.
Good luck Beast.

Good luck John and thanks again.
I assume this has been done to free up wages- if the manager doesn't sign anyone he is going to look awfully foolish

Assuming that is the case, Bucky - and I think you are correct - who should Darren be aiming at ?

All the best to John. One of my all time favourite Rovers players. A key part of 2 legendary Rovers sides. Will always be welcome. Also very pleased he's not going to a League One rival! It was clear that there were unknown factors in him not starting so much this season so maybe this will be for the best for both parties. Time will tell. I am assuming that there is a replacement lined up or more than one as given our current injury situation and lack of fire power all season it leaves us very short. There are one or two strikers who are currently unattached who could perhaps do a job. Or maybe a face we know.

All the very best John - to a true legend in the club's history, and the guy who won us the league at Clyde, with a virtuoso performance. You will be greatly missed - a real character and player.

So sad to see John go. His father-in-law was a good friend at many of the matches - a Royal PHotographer to boot!
Think Gemmell leaving will free up a lot of cash as he was on a hefty weekly wage - let's hope we can get someone in with half of his talent.
I'm starting to fear the worst but I'm ever the optomist!

Peter I posted this on another post regarding johns Hefty wage... Just to clarify John was not the highest earner at the club. The club getting rid of him is not going to free up much of a wage. He came back to rovers, taking a massive pay cut. He wanted to try and win something with the club and that's what he done.

Can only add to the above comments - very disappointed to see John leaving us. A Rovers legend departs. All the best John.
