I heard today from one of the community teams that the DOF Dave Caldwell has resigned from the club. If so, from what I hear it is a massive blow to the club.
I was told from a TRUST member he was the catalyst to having the new regime in place and was the main sponsor of installing Brian Kerr, they said he has worked wth Brian to achieved a real positive structure at the club, all this with a huge reduction in budget, some say over 50%. I spoke to David at the Clyde game and he told me Brian Kerr has the potential to be a top-flight manager. I for one am enjoying Brian's brand of football, which after packing in my Celtic season ticket i am now getting a return from watching good football.
I know the TRUST are now looking to secure David's services from my conversation today, I know from pals he has brought together the community teams under the Albion Rovers Sporting Club banner, many of the coaches say it’s the best relationship they have had with the club for years.
I also understand David is personally funding the club in many areas and has been keeping the Development Squad going through money he put into the TRUST to support their survival.
On an interesting FACT note. I was also surprised when I read Lee Sharpe ex Man Utd book, he mentioned David as being instrumental in his career and played the night with Lee Sharp at Torquay when he was signed by Manchester United, it’s a good read! Love a biography!
I suppose as like many news releases from the club we will find out sometime.

Early this year someone on this messageboard accused the same director of football of some pretty serious negative actions. I voiced concerns on the same thread and David, a poster on this forum, sent me a very courteous PM to explain that he found the accusations very strange and that he wouldn't speculate on why someone said such a thing but that he would never condone or take part in any unprofessional behaviour.
I'm not at all a fan of the "DOF" model especially at small clubs, partly because I still don't know exactly what he does, but from the little I heard of this guy he's quite the class act.

The club can confirm the resignation of David Caldwell from the post of Director of Football. We would like to thank David for all his efforts on behalf of Albion Rovers, particularly in the areas of our under 20s team, social media and in the preparations for our cup tie against Celtic in January. We wish David well in his new ventures.

Thank you for the kind remarks, in answer to your question, the role was quite broad and I supported the club in many areas and as the chairman said, I even project managed the Celtic game as I inherited such skills from my time at Xerox, but I even cleaning toilets and washed the kit to name a few other tasks during my time at the club. I hope the legacy I leave is what you witness on the pitch, the model we have was proposed by myself and accepted by the board after Darren decided to move on. My role was the interface between board and the football element of the club to support the manager in any capacity to deliver a competitive team within the provided budget. Although the manager and I agreed on the model, all the credit must go to Brian Kerr, he has put together a squad which is both competitive and plays attractive football, only time will tell but I think the signs are positive, Brian has a bright future and I wish him, his management team and all the squad my best wishes for the rest of the season.

Seems typical of the past few years - management (not just on the playing side)ins and outs - this revolving door thing is no good for stability. I for one am very sorry to hear that David has gone and wish him well. Hopefully in the fulness of time this doesn`t come to be seen as a retrograde step.

It was quite a sudden departure, the community coaches said he was in the middle of rolling out the community structure as some of the coaches I know attended a child welfare class he organised. I was told the reason, if true, I would hope the club take the right measures as not sure it would be good if this hits the press straight after out registration issues, which bares the question, why as you say Grant, is there so much turmoil at a small club?

It totally baffled me the comings and goings at Rovers over recent years.
Quite honestly, as soon as a new appointment is announced I can virtually hear the clock ticking on their pending resignation.
There is such a thing a revolving door policy and then there is what goes on at Rovers which is off the scale.
This constant fluctuation in personnel can only bring instability and uncertainty.

Thanks for the post, took on board what you said and banged on a few quid, did not expect that scoreline, but what a great result

Thanks to David for all his work.
Personally I don't see the need for a DoF for a club of Rovers' size.

Thanks to David for all his work. Personally I don't see the need for a DoF for a club of Rovers' size. Bucky clubs like Albion struggle to attract good professionals like David. How do you think we got to where we are now, without one? Who do you think put the first team structure in place, who was advising the board, who has been supporting Brian and the team, I was told yesterday by a pal at the time capsule when they asked where David was that he was paying for training facilites with his own money to limit the first team training on the pitch, it’s all in the name Director of Football?

I am sure we will survive, and possibly even thrive, without a DoF. Could probably make better use of a plumber.

The day Albion Rovers need a DoF is the day we change our name to Albion Madrid.

Some comments are quite amazing, you want a good team and success, but dont want anyone at the club who can make that happen? Lack of ambition will be the clubs downfall. just my opinion!
