It is with great sadness that I learned the news that our former groundsman Hughie McBride had passed away in Monklands Hospital this afternoon. Hughie had been a loyal servant to the club for many years and had the Rovers at heart. I only got to know Hughie well in the last year or so and it was great that he came back to help out at the ground occasionally despite failing health . He knew everything about the pitch and the stadium and his love for the club shone through.
I have passed on my condolences on behalf of the club to Hughie's family. He will be sadly missed.

So sad to hear of Hughie's passing. Please pass on our thoughts and prayers to Wilma and all the family. A real gentleman who worked tirelessly for the Rovers.

HUghie was a quiet decent guy that just got on with the job, a good servant to the club, not treated well by a previous board.

I often had a chat with Hughie when I arrived at Cliftonhill early in the morning of a Saturday match. As others have said, he was a quiet man who worked hard to keep the pitch in good order. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Very sad news indeed. Hughie was indeed an absolute gentleman.
Will always remember his half-time walks around the pitch with his pitch fork and claw hammer.
Condolences to his family.

Wonderful send off for Hughie today.
Made me so proud to be part of the Rovers family.
Pat Rolink was the Humanist Celebrant and he did a good job.
Please Pray for Wilma and the family.
You were a legend Hughie.
Finally . Great to see club doctor with his Rovers scarf at the funeral.
