The seedlings have been announced for the group stages.
The 40 teams have been split into north groups and south, we are south.
Teams will be put into 8 groups of 5, 4 north 4 south.
Top seeds (1 per group) Motherwell Hamilton Partick Thistle Kilmarnock
Second seeds (1 per group) Rangers St. Mirren Queen Of The South Greenock Morton
Unseeded Teams (3 per group) Ayr United Livingston Stranraer Airdrieonians Albion Rovers Stenhousemuir Queens Park Clyde Annan Athletic Berwick Rangers Edinburgh City East Stirlingshire
Dumbarton have been placed into the north section to balance out the numbers
North Section Top seeds (1 per group) St Johnstone Ross County Dundee ICT
Second seeds (1 per group) Dundee United Raith Rovers Falkirk Dumbarton
Unseeded (3 per group) Dunfermline Alloa Peterhead Brechin Cowdenbeath East Fife Forfar Athletic Elgin Stirling Albion Montrose Arbroath Cove Rangers
The top team from each group along with the 4 teams who finish second with the best record go through to join the 4 teams involved in europian competitions (Celtic Hearts Hibs and Aberdeen)
I'm sure I read that if a game finishes a draw each team gets a point with the match then going straight to a penalty shootout, the winner of that then gets an additional point

Wouldn't be very impressed if we had been treated like Dumbarton, would have thought Stenhousemuir and East Stirling would have been considered further north than Dumbarton...If the SPFL can't get the geography right it doesn't auger well for the new season

Kilmarnock, St. Mirren and Edinburgh City are all unfamiliar foes. I have never seen us play Killie in a competitive match if memory serves and only the single cup tie against the Buddies and pretty sure we haven't played Edinburgh City in my lifetime at all. So we shall probably not get any of those. No doubt the club will be hoping for Rangers as the cash would come in useful!

Anyone remember the time when Rovers were beaten 9-8 on penalties by East Stirling in late 1970's League cup only for Rovers to protest on the grounds that ref forgot to play extra time beforehand

Indeed I do, it was the 1st match that I was at (IIRC) that was going to go to extra-time and it didn't! We stuffed them in the replay.
