This has been bugging me for a week or so now so just thought I'd stick it out there. On my Twitter feed it appeared that the Rovers were playing this Friday night against Newarthill? ? On looking at it further it appears its not The Rovers trying to squeeze in 2 games in the space of 24 hours but an amateur team who have decided to call themselves Albion Rovers albeit they add amateurs at the end, however not only are they using our name they are also advertising themselves under the club badge. This other Albion Rovers team are playing in one of the local amateur leagues in the area. Now after attending the wee discussiion group a few weeks ago when the subject of ownership of the clubs name was discussed I was a tad surprised to see this, So my question is, are this new team in anyway associated with the club, if so why weren't we all informed of this new exciting venture, if not then why are the club allowing their name and Club Badge to be used by other folks.

Don`t worry Sam, someone will be along shortly to blame David Caldwell for this

They are not associated with the club Sam and did not ask for permission to use badge and name as far as I can ascertain.

Looking at their pinned tweet, dated 15th July, they were formerly known as Kirkstyle Thistle.

Ronnie So what do the club propose to do Ronnie, I have no issue with the club itself, I know how difficult it is to run an amateur club and keep it going just don’t think someone should be allowed to steal another clubs identity

Somtimes it's better to start by just talking to people

Over the past few years I have never seen so many kids or adults around Coatbridge in Albion Rvers gear or colours. You go down the local football parks these days and you see hundred of people in our colours, surely this should be looked as a good thing? They aren’t bringing any harm to the club so why would we want to chase this away or stop it? I know I would rather see all the kids in Coatbridge in our colours than kitted out head to toe in the colours of the old firm teams.

Agree Paulrovers that the more folk getting behind the club the better, however that’s not my point of my post. It was brought up at the discussion group night about protecting the clubs identity. You can’t have anyone coming along and using the name and club emblem without getting permission from the club. I’d love to see us spreading the Rovers name by having younger teams using our name but they must be answerable to the club. If, and I’m only using this to make a point, something kicks off with this amateur team then whose name and badge are splattered all over the reports

Just a few points about this thread. Firstly the team being referred to is an amateur team and not a youth team so wouldn't come under the auspices of the football club. Secondly , it would be great if the teams using the football club's name showed the basic courtesy of asking permission and lastly although it might be great that youth teams are using the club's name and /or colours it would be also great that the club benefitted financially, even in a modest way, from this.

They needed to contact Rovers before adopting our name. That is basic procedures and manners.
What happens if that team gets involved in anything unsavoury ? It would reflect badly on Rovers even though they are not affiliated with us.
