Over the years I have , on this forum and in programme notes , constantly praised those volunteers who give generously of their time to keep the club going. Without these volunteers helping on match days and at other times it is hard to see how the Rovers could continue to operate.
What I have done less often is to point out how much clubs like the Rovers also rely on sponsors. For some fans sponsorship is a dirty word or at best a necessary evil. But whatever way you look at it , it is a part of the modern business of football and one which the Rovers could not do without. Put simply, it is hard to envisage how we could survive on gate money alone and even adding in the money from the football bodies this wouldn't make ends meet. There are other small but welcome sources of income such as the squad fund and the supporters trust but the third of the main 3 is sponsorship . Unlike many smaller clubs who do very well from hospitality, our facilities don't afford us that opportunity so our reliance on sponsorship is even greater.
It was tremendous this year when K&T Plant took on the shirt sponsorship at relatively short notice and put in a significant sum into the club. It is important that this kind of investment is recognised by all involved at the club including the fans. Businesses don't have to invest in lower league clubs but it is great when they do . One feature of sponsorship at the Rovers is that often one of our fans is the link in persuading the business to put money into the club. This was the case with K&T's sponsorship this season which was arranged through supporter and safety officer Terry Gillooly and there are several other examples. As a club we are very grateful to firms such as K&T Plant and others.
