Check your personal messages, Johnmac put it on the board grant, I think it’s a public forum. If you have an explanation for your opinion it should be put on the board grant

But the money he got along with Sandy Clark for signing must have put a strain on finances and then later spending and that loan. Yes it was the boards fault but he benefitted in a way none of our other managers have or will and it made him look better than he was. And it seems he has reached his level as none of the big clubs want him. ok how much did he and sandy get for signing on. And explain the loan as I don’t understand jimbo Don’t know if there was money for actually signing but it was a well known fact that Darren was on a playing contract of £200 a week and a manager’s contract of £300 a week. Sandy Clark and subsequently Billy Stark were on £300 per week. You don’t need to wear a Director’s suit to know that this is simply unsustainable. Personally I thought Paul Martin was a better manager and got the club promoted on a fraction of the budget

I notice you have just registered johnmac, this topic has been discussed ad nauseum over the past few years. Bottom line is Rovers are stil suffering a financial hangover from the Darren Young days....not blaming him...but those Directors who allowed , as Bucky has said, unsustainable spending, which resulted in the club taking a loan from a sub prime lender with interest rates in the mid thirties per cent after the Bank threatened to foreclose. all this is well known to Rovers fans....indeed at one point the BoD sent a letter to all shareholders asking for donations/loans to keep the club going.

The Rovers BoD took out loans of over £100K from a company Shawbrook at interest rates of over 30% as the club`s bankers (RBS) would not extend the overdraft and were threatening to foreclose. Other lenders wouldn`t touch the club with a bargepole. Repayments were a constant drain on the club, indeed the chairman`s statement at the AGM last January just brought home how bad thins were financially, hence, as Jimbo has said, the appointment of Brogan last season with a playing budget of around £50K. All this is history, hopefully lessons have been learned and the only way to go is forward in the current circumstances, although, as i have said, the financial affairs of the past stil haunt the club.

Yes I have just registered grant my name is John mcilwraith and I’m a personal friend of Darren young and other directors of that era. And have got fed up off the inaccuracies of this message board regarding this type of post. So grant to the point in hand who were these directors you constantly speak about? Let’s start there

In Darren’s last season at Rovers he was still on a £200 a week playing contract and hardly kicked a ball the whole season. I would ask you do you think pay a manager £500 a week total and an assistant £300 per week sustainable for a club like Albion Rovers given the club’s turnover is on average £200k per year. Btw I don’t blame Darren for the overspending that was the then Chairman’s fault and subsequent Directors failing to reign the spending in. Darren did well to win the league and keep us up I would have been seriously disappointed if he hadn’t given the budget. I would add in his handling of club captain Ciaran Donnelly’s exit from the club was despicable and that’s being generous.

Grant your figures are a mile out and I think I know we’re you heard that. Borrow 90 pay back 65 that doesn’t make 30% intrest grant that is better than intrest free plus 25!!! Bad business? Darren and the board inherit the massive overspend from ward and the previous regime who leave no overdraft as they think it prudent to pay it off runaway and leave no working capital. Off course no bank will touch them why would they, they have there money back from a bad risk that has had 600k written of f it’s worth by a survey put to the bank showing the stadium undervalued by 600k!! I know this as an accountant who did work on the accounts, get tired of Darren get a rough ride along with others who brought you a bit of success

It was stated at the AGM that the shawbrook loans were based upon interest of 30% +. Anyway, the club is where it is now , funny how all the directors of that time (except one) did a runner when things got tough. Quite why you need to bring all this up now, when it`s all history, yes we basked in the glory of the championship, little we know at that time the price the club would pay in the future, when its very existence was put on the line.

Sorry Bucky I’m a bit new to this type of thing more than a Darren fan I’m a friend of his and a most of the directors at the time, I explained to grant and jimbo that I think it poor the way Darren is protrayed as he and the directors who stayed that title winning season constantly get muck thrown at them. Did any of you guys not realise the fire service service were closing the stadium because it hadn’t been fireproofed and told the club previously if it wasn’t ready for the season the title was won it was being shut down!!! NLC at the same time refused a safety certificate and the league were ready to throw the book at the club because of this Bucky. Any idea how this was resolved or how it was paid for?
