Wrong bucky they got 300k fact, stop pulling figures out the air as per usaul. The manager won the league the second time in your history. And you complain about him getting £200 wages gus was on £750 at queens park at the time, barry ferguson at clyde was looked after that year. Have a think bucky at what your saying, would it have Been better im paul Martin would have done it for you. That season.darren done it with wards And devlins signings. I remember John smith thanking ronnie the day he Put the flag up the pole as a fantastic day for him And the town he didnt say that Man young is nót worth it I’ll ask you a third time do you think it’s sustainable for a club like Rovers to pay a manager £500 a week and an assistant £300 per week regardless if it’s Darren Young, Paul Martin or Jose Moreno?

All the best to Mark on his appointment to the manager's job at Ayr. Met him a couple of times when we played Ayr a few season's ago in League One and he came across as a very decent bloke who as a Coatbridge man had a soft spot for the Rovers.

Sorry Bucky I’m a bit new to this type of thing more than a Darren fan I’m a friend of his and a most of the directors at the time, I explained to grant and jimbo that I think it poor the way Darren is protrayed as he and the directors who stayed that title winning season constantly get muck thrown at them. Did any of you guys not realise the fire service service were closing the stadium because it hadn’t been fireproofed and told the club previously if it wasn’t ready for the season the title was won it was being shut down!!! NLC at the same time refused a safety certificate and the league were ready to throw the book at the club because of this Bucky. Any idea how this was resolved or how it was paid for? One Director paid for the fire proofing as far as I know. Would it not have been better to have money set aside in the budget for repairs rather than vast overspending on wages? The club played Rangers 3 times in cup competions and Celtic in the cup in Darren’s last season. The money from the Celtic game merely bought the club some time as Administrators were wiping their feet on the Cliftonhill welcome mat. Surely something is missing when you get a windfall like that but the club is in financial dire straights. The Shawbrooke loan was the icing on the cake. Anyway as you are a close personal friend of ex manager and ex directors ( an ex is an ex for a reason btw) this debate will go round in circles. You are entitled to your opinion as am I. All the best John. We couldn’t budget for the fireproofing work as we had no idea of the issue or the huge cost. The council asked us in August 2014 if the club planned to stay in Coatbridge, when the response was yes they wanted the work carried out within 7 days. The issue they said they had was that for they previous 2 or 3 years they had been told the club was looking to move away and there was no point in carrying out the work. I managed to get the date extended to Christmas. The chairman paid for the materials, I carried out all the documentation and inspections and Stevie Kirk spent 2 weeks in the voids carrying out the work with some help from a few lads. If the work had not been carried out the stadium was closed.

I’m not doubting that for a minute Terry as it’s all been documented in the past . The reality is Rovers were overspending so much on wages they couldn’t budget for one offs. Directors putting their own money in isn’t a new thing at Rovers. Robert Watt put in £69k for unpaid NI contributions as the club faced closure from Inland Revenue. As I understand Robert got that paid back as it was registered in the accounts as a loan.
Anyway it’s all old ground that’s been covered before.

Robert may have been paid back but the chairman wasn’t and I think that is part of the issue I have, not that he didn’t get his money - it was his choice. You may be right that the money spent on wages was too high, that’s your opinion but I look at the decisions made by all the boards and chairman in the time I have followed the club and ask if they were correct. The huge sums of money paid in legal fees to try and fight a legal case against a former director, higher wage bills paid out to try and ensure the club would not be the first to fall into the lowland league, the appointment of John Brogan (people will discuss his managerial performance but for what it’s worth he was a lovely man who wanted to do well) but I believe was they were all made with the best interest of the club at heart. As you say, old ground lets move on.

I think I answered it at the beginning of this he as the best manager and player in the league was worth the £250 as player and £200 as manager. I base it on perspective of that season £5000 to sign gemmell and £1500 signing on fee £250 a week wages plus all other things to be sorted for him, never kicked a ball of any great note, Darren was worth it. I never heard of Moreno is he family of the famous former Chelsea manager Bucky?

Think you have to realise that not everyone liked Darren. Some managers regardless of record you just don't take to. That is reality. As a friend you have a different perspective which could be construed as rose tinted. Lighten up and get a sense of humour.
