Scottish Premiership clubs will discuss a proposal for a 14-14-16 model of league reconstruction later this week. The panel assessing restructuring has been working on the expanded leagues idea as one of a number of potential options. A 14-14-16 set-up would expand the top tier by two and invite Brora Rangers and Kelty Hearts into the bottom tier. That would expand the 42 senior clubs to 44 and reduce the number of divisions from four to three. The 15-strong reconstruction group met on Monday and the 14-14-16 option will be discussed by top-flight clubs on Thursday to see if there is enough support for it. BBC Scotland has learned the plan would only be formally recommended as the preferred option to all 42 clubs if it is clear there is enough support for the proposal at all levels of the game. Bizarre to read that a 14-20-10 set up has also been proposed but has no chance says the Record.

14-14-16 looks unlikely, to go through you need
11 prem clubs 8 champ clubs and 15 from league 1 and 2 to agree

14-14-16 looks unlikely, to go through you need 11 prem clubs 8 champ clubs and 15 from league 1 and 2 to agree This would probably be the best and fairest outcome, PROVIDED the SPFL (Premiership clubs) were willing to share more of the money to the lower league to ensure that clubs like ourselves don’t lose out from the extra 2 clubs joining the league set up and the loss of home games. Otherwise the the current league 1 and league 2 teams would vote against it.

Can’t see Premier League clubs accepting a smaller share of the pie

Can’t see Premier League clubs accepting a smaller share of the pie No, and that is and always will be the big issue with any and all reconstruction ideas. But at least more teams would mean playing each other less times, although it has to be weighed up with the number of home league games in the season.

14-14-14 would also see the end of 4 times per season and wouldn’t spread the cash thinner than it already is. Yes it may seem unfair to Kelty & Brora.
Personally I fancy a wee trip to Brora and was at Kelty last season and it’s ok so wouldn’t be too bothered having to go again.

Folks, think you might be surprised how this vote goes. A lot of clubs may be on the brink in the higher leagues, a lesser share may be more appealing than going the way of Gretna!

Nonsense Gretna went bust due to more than a lack of money. More a case of using a club as a toy with no planning for the future. When the moneyman passed away his family pulled the plug.

Ha
But if they dont vote it up to 44 teams they will get a bigger share, it's not like they are voting for either getting less money or nothing at all

All I can say in all honesty is that I hope some of them go to the wall. Self centred and no collaborative approach will be the death of clubs, employees and fan dreams.
