A major revamp of this seasons Scottish Cup is proposedDrastic enough excluding around half the teams eligible but one of the possible option only allows Premier, Championship and League One teams in which would be outrageous! Starting it on Boxing Day is somewhat bizarre too.

Agree with comments above . Ripping the heart and magic out of the tournament. Paying clubs £5k not to participate instead of finding ways to get them playing even behind closed doors and compensating them for that. I said unbelievable and then remembered this was the SFA we were talking about.

It would be more wiser to shelf the Scottish Cup for the coming season. With the season not starting until October for clubs out with the top flight, coupled with the league cup squeezed in between , there is not much room left in the calendar. Remember we still have last seasons Scottish Cup to be completed and is there an Iron Bru tournament this year ? If we have a wild winter will the season conclude on time ? Too much for a , what will be , a strange football season 2020/2021.

SFA run the scottish Cup and the semi finals and final provide a big payday for them, the cant afford not to run it, that's why they are playing last years semi's and final

Indeed, TV rights and gate money (if any) provide a big chuck of cash for the SFA and therefore for their member clubs including Rovers although we see hellish little of it.

BBC news has a different take on it:
The Scottish Cup could be cut from 112 to 52 teams as the Scottish FA consults with clubs on a streamlined version for the 2020-21 season.
One option being considered is that only 10 non-league sides will join the 42 SPFL teams in the tournament.
The competition may start on 26 December - less than a week after the rescheduled 2020 final between either Hearts or Hibs and Celtic or Aberdeen.
That would mean one fewer round than normal.
Replays could also be scrapped in a bid to reduce the fixture congestion caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Don't get me wrong, I realise we are facing an on going crisis but with a bit of imagination they could get the cup on with all clubs involved. Let's face it for most clubs involved it means one or two games. If games have to be closed door then SFA pays compensation which they were going to anyway for teams missing out. Start the early rounds in October, have 2 or 3 weeks between rounds and you could start at Christmas for the third round.

Don't think imagination is their strong point!

A nice wee trip to Brora on 26th December will enliven the festive period.

charlietheoptimist cancel the cup! A thousand times NO. Tradition. The cup is the oldest competition in Scotland, only World Wars have seen it cancelled. The best thing about it - is the element of chance of the cup draw, big boy v wee boy. As long as they do not interfere too much with the cup, then get it sorted and organised.
