What do I miss about not being at the match?
1) Marmiteman and his incomprehensible/daft/funny/odd (score out what you think applies) comments
2) Jimbo42 having a go at the referee, again, again,.....
3) Drummer man I am a music free zone buts hats off to Drummer man, he is a superstar.
Mainly, I miss the silliness of it all, and the irritations, and those occassional moments of magic.

What do I miss about not being at the match? 1) Marmiteman and his incomprehensible/daft/funny/odd (score out what you think applies) comments Unfortunately not as he lives near my Mother 3) Drummer man I am a music free zone buts hats off to Drummer man, he is a superstar. Ehm.... nope! I do miss Donald & Andy M., the latter of whom isn't so well at the moment, Andy & Mary, even Gordon Lind, Eddie & Ronnie. I also miss some others but don't want to name them or their heads will swell! The Cliftonhill banter, generally amongst ourselves and occasionally with opposition types. I miss the adventure of actually going out to Cliftonhill and the trips to Elgin and the like with a stop at Aviemore for chips etc. I miss the excitement and even annoyance of how the game is going - watching online is better than nothing but only just! I miss not having encountered our manager since he's been appointed and all the new players even if just at a distance on the pitch. I miss the reserve games which may only have about 5 fans who aren't relatives of the players on a cold Monday night but you can still get a hot cuppa to keep you going at a reasonable price. In short, when you ask what do you miss, paraphrasing Brando in Rebel Without a Cause or as I prefer Kryten in Red Dwarf I say whaddya got? or more accurately whaddya did have!

The banter. The random shouts we all wait for (dirty cheat, talk to each other, for f*cks sake ref, oh wait, that last ones mine, heard it last Saturday). The race between prof and marmiteman for the pies. The walk to the match in anticipation/dread. The bus to the away games. Missing goals while having a laugh instead of the camera system. Just the whole shebang. It just ain't the same.

In my role I still attend the matches and have been fortunate to have a chat with the new manager and some of our new players are really nice lads, but it’s worth pointing out that you may miss Cliftonhill but Cliftonhill misses you - it’s not the same without the noise the shouts the banter and the familiar faces - I really look forward to everyone being back on Saturday afternoon.

The whole day is a great experience for the 3 of us when we come up , which was most weeks Getting to Preston for the 8am train cheeky pint in Glasgow before hitting St Andrews bar around 11am the banter with Chris , Forbes , Danny , the Wee B in there and then catching up with Scott , Alison , Hannah , Prof and whoever else is in the Vulcan pre match the match itself - a different kind of passion and style of football and now I hate Airdrie with a passion and Fort William , that is a long drive. Steny in the pouring rain getting the glares as we English in the local pubs - Scotch pies the pre match sulk and excuses back in the Vulcan if we stay over the 8 meat feast in the pizza place by the Vulcan and the deep fried haggis sleepless nights in Mondo cos we get the rooms near the nightclub by Asda
but we keep doing it as we love the banter , the whole experience. Real fans supporting their local club and passion so evident. cannot wait to get back and the sooner the better - need to use these season tickets

I miss the amazing girls who serve in the pie shop. The St Andrews Ambulance guys winning the 50 50 draw every other week. The sound of Gerry on the drums playing the death march. Listening to John Reynolds corny jokes. Watching dross on the park. Listening to dross from the fans. But I LOVE IT. AND I MISS IT.

I miss the ARFC OK chants, the drummer's wife covering her ears when he plays that f***ing drum, wee Alec who wanders up and down the terrace while barely watching the game but will tell me about watching Rovers in the 1960s when I wasn't born yet, the wee fat female nutter steward, having a tea and hot dog from the cafe, seeing water dripping down from the terrace roof when it is pouring down with rain onto the side of the pitch, getting a match programme and the banter from the crowd.
Watching the games through Pixellot is better than nothing but does it compare to being at the games, no chance.

Nice to see everyone getting all nostalgic amidst the chaos on the park. I think we could all miss, as a result of COVID-19, our clubs last season in the SPFL. But hey-ho, drums, pies, and banter seem to take precedence. Can’t wait to visit all these new grounds...

Really surprised just how much I miss being at the game , I'd always have said I go to the Rovers for the football first and the "match-day experience" second, but I'm feeling a massive disconnect watching from home.
I think its partly due to the completely new team , its hard to watch them having never seen them live and get that same connection you have had with teams in the past (even the shite ones). If most of our players walked by me in the street i couldn't tell you who they were despite having seen 5 or 6 matches at this point.
Everything seems a bit more gloomy and hard to take at home too, no shared gallows humour on the way out the ground or in the pub after the game.
It has made me lighten up a bit and realise football at our level is about the experience of getting out and being at the match with other folk as much as it is the football.
All that said , if I never heard that drum again in my life I'd be a happy man!

Nothing really to add to this great thread. Some excellent posts which some up the unique atmosphere of Cliftonhill on a match day.
