Wrong, Ray played an outstanding match as sweeper in a League Cup tie at Ibrox in August 1978 ...was man of the match by a country mile...and yes we lost....he was also sweeper in the return leg at Cliftonill...the match we lost 0-1 and alex McDonald got sent off for a swipe at willie Muldoon

He did play sweeper v QOS though. I tend to remember the glory times with Raymond as glamorous forward: diving headers, long-range drives; the lot. Oh, and he hit the post at Ibrox.

I loved Ray Franchetti.Built like a tank but what a player.Fearless.
Can't imagine him as sweeper though as he was as slow as a week in jail or as slow as a week of stewmelrover talking about cricket.

John Donnelly, you are clearly in need of some in-depth Cricketing education. I'll keep a space for you in the Albion Rovers Cricket XI in the Summer.

Pre-Covid, Drumpellier cricket club was a very pleasant place to spend an afternoon.
In 1874, a football team was formed that played out of Drumpellier with that name at a senior level, they were gone by the 1890s.
There are quite a few current Football clubs who started off as a cricket team, and became a football club or the other way round.
In Robin's book, there is chat about Rovers players not being available because they were playing cricket, especially early on but before it became legal to pay players.
Albion Rovers Cricket XI sounds like a great idea to me.
