Wow, Buckie Thistle again, huh?! One of my favourite Rovers' memories was the cup tie at Cliftonhill. Crowd was given as 889, but season tickets got you into all games then, so the actual crowd was far bigger methinks. 89 and a bit minutes and Jim McCabe headed the winner. Scenes!! Cliftonhill went mental. Not for the small group of us veterans of the infamous Inverness trip who fancied another trip up North

Hmmm a team called Buckie, playing in green and white hoops coming to coatbridge They are always one of the stronger teams in the highland league, I cant see us winning I think most teams in that draw would fancy themselves against a young Rovers team. It’s a home draw. I’m thankful we didn’t get Kelty or Bonnyrigg Rose.

I was at the original Buckie game and it was the only time in my life I actually felt a bit sorry for a team beaten by Rover's.
You could probably chuck in the Burntisland Shipyards goalie in there as well.I though we were filming a sketch for 'Ripping Yarns' that day.
I think Jim McCabe was from Coatbridge and showed a lot of promise at Motherwell but like many a young lad he had a fondness for the birds, the bevvy and the Cassanova nightclub.

Talking of showing it live, can we do that? Saw some mutterings yesterday about the previous round not being able to be streamed by the clubs due to rights. Really hope that's not the case as it would make the game a financial burden for both teams , particularly Buckie with travel costs. That doesn’t even consider the fans not seeing the game, so its probably true knowing the SFA 😂😂😂 The SFA are giving permissions for live streaming on a round by round basis. We’ll need to wait and see if they grant rights for this round. Fingers crossed.

Jim was from Greenend, I was with Pat Reilly on the Sunday morning we went to his house to get him to sign for Rovers.

And a reasonable chance of being in hat for next round. Ronnie

Buckie are over the moon at the draw
You can see why when we have performed very poorly v highland league opposition at home

According to my records for Rovers home Scottish Cup ties against Highland League or Northern teams, Rovers 5 wins (Inverness Thistle, Ross County, Buckie Thistle, Clachnacuddin, Deveronvale), 3 defeats (Deveronvale, Sunnybank, Formartine), and two draws (Huntly, Fort William).
Not great, especially more recently.
Played to a finish due to the Covid situation, adds something else into the mix, as well playing on Boxing Day, giving them an early rise, and a long bus journey.
Surely, it is our turn for a wee cup run.

I have a feeling the live match will be Dundonald v Queens Park - the history/romance as well as how Queens have started. It’s not often anybody on this board is correct but you were spot on! Moved from Boxing Day to Monday 28th 7.45 at home of Kelty Hearts.

I thought about how the BBC would create a background story in the build up to a game - and this one had all the ingredients - 10 times winners/Hampden - Dundonald's first cup tie etc - All the makings for a complete film ! Hopefully we will get our turn once again !
