Known to most as "Mad Bill", East Stirling announced last night he sadly passed away,
Think it's safe to say there are few characters as colourful as he was.
I think a loss to the lower leagues

I wonder which, if any, of our regulars is recognised as vividly by other clubs' fans.

I wonder which, if any, of our regulars is recognised as vividly by other clubs' fans. I think the late Chic Young was fairly well known to other clubs and probably Cathy O’ Hare before that. Not that I would put them in the same category as Mad Bill.

I remember many years ago Off The Ball had a tannoy announcer competition. Bill beat yours truly. A worthy winner. Rest in peace Bill.

Certainly in latter years, the Firs Park tannoy announcer was a very different character who occupied every second of the 15min half-time with facts and figures until you wanted to scream - SHUT UP!!!!!

Pretty sure Mad Bill (of plastic bag fame) was never behind the tannoy mic at Firs Park. Bill’s patter was a tad too partisan for that lofty official role, more suited to the Terracing than the Tannoy Announcer’s perch. If memory serves, the man behind the mic in the now abandoned Firs Park stand was a geezer with an exotic Easter European monicker (a local radio journalist, I think) whose motor- mouthed patter provoked many a wry chuckle as we ate our half time pies and traded genial banter with the Shire faithful.

Yeh I remember he would do halftime scores then go through the previous weeks junior results in full then pick out articles from the local newspaper

I think I've made a mistake. First this year though!! I thought someone said he was the tannoy announcer at East Stirling. Now that I am thinking properly, the announcer was named Les who beat me to the Off The Ball Trophy. Apologies to Les (not sure if he's still with us though).

Bill was never on the tannoy. He was the main verbals giver with the plastic bag. Some brilliant shouts and a real character. The tannoy announcer was called Tariq Cotshieebah, I think. He may also have been an active board member.
