Here's a wee update about all things Albion Rovers Community Trust!
AGM
Following our AGM our members and office bearers are:
Chair: Isabelle Boyd Vice Chair: Mark Agnew Secretary: Gordon Lind Treasurer: Lorraine Simpson ARFC Rep: Eddie Haggerty
Other members:
Ronnie Boyd Simon Delahey Jim Gallagher Fulton Macgregor MSP Councillor Bill Shields Bill Walker
SPFL Grant
As you know, we received a £10k Grant from SPFL and we have spent this entirely on ARFC/Reigart Stadium related works.
1. We have created a community pitch behind the Coatbridge goals. The weather hasn't been kind, but we are expecting the groundwork company to attend in the next few weeks to do remedial work etc on the community pitch. Hopefully this will take and be ready for use by our youth teams and AFRC warm ups etc before the end of the season.
2. We have refurbished the portacabin -inside and out - and have now identified furniture and fittings for use when it is the Community Hub but still Club shop on match days. The new flooring, lighting and furniture etc give us a community space which has great potential.
3. Disabled access for the Community Hub is all agreed and we expect a concrete fully DDA compliant ramp to be built before Easter.
4. We paid for sponsorship and junior season tickets.
5. We financed the establishment of a Hall of Fame and new furniture in the lounge.
I am sure you will all agree that these projects enhance the reputation of Albion Rovers FC and improve the experience of fans and the community alike.
Community Activity
Most of our community activity has been postponed due to lockdown. However, we are still ticking over. Although our Thursday Club is suspended, a few of our members and Trustees - keep a weather eye on the stadium and its environs as well as doing prep work for us when we are fully operational again. This is to the benefit of us all with added value of having people on the premises to ensure the stadium doesn’t seem abandoned to possible intruders.
Our Buddies, Memories Group, Walking Club are all suspended but we hope to be able to restart the walking group when we move back into Tier 3. All Youth Teams under the badge of ARFC are now part of the Community Trust. We have good relations with the team coaches, but unfortunately COVID has seen them unable to train or play for long periods of time.
Men's Shed is the newest addition to the Community portfolio. It is great to have a nationally recognised charity working with us.
While schools work has been postponed, we are supporting a number of local schools with a Reading challenge and a Physical Activity pack.
You will be pleased to note that the Trust and ARFC are often held up as an example of good partnership working by the SPFL - maybe this will help us to get more grants in the future and let us do more work for our community.
I would be delighted to hear from any of you who have comments, suggestions and ideas.
Regards
Isabelle
