Good news. The Rovers Memories group will start back again on Friday 18 June at 1.30 in the lounge at the stadium after a 15 month break due to Covid19 restrictions.
The group has a blether about all things Albion Rovers and half way through stops for a pie and a Bovril/tea/coffee. We also often have former players along to speak to us about their memories of playing at Cliftonhill. One of the things we will do at our first meeting back is to come up with a list of former players to invite along.
Looking forward to welcoming old(existing!) members back along with new members. All most welcome. It's a great afternoon out.

From the ex-players through the Old Rovers pics twitter account I was going to suggest the following who maybe of interest
Ally Graham Ewan Watson Brian Fairlie Des McKeown Martin Scott Tony Gallagher- contributed to a Stranraer podcas Ian Hart from late 70’s Davie Main and Ian Gillespie both contribute to the Facebook old Scottish football page Chris Silvestro Iain Diack Andy Paterson Bernie Slaven - maybe a long shot , doesn’t talk that much about his time at Rovers but has started following the account and contributes now and again Andy Ritchie- this is a must - absolutely hilarious on twitter and would have a tonne of stories not just Rovers obviously More recent players are the crazy gang-Ciaran, John Gemmell- Paul Martin would be a good shout

Iain Diack? You’re joking - I’d go just to give him stick!
John Reynolds would be a good pick!

Iain Diack? You’re joking - I’d go just to give him stick! John Reynolds would be a good pick! Absolutely serious about Iain - a talented player so what if he left Rovers under a cloud he still has a lot of affection for the club who gave him a chance at 16 years old

Lots of good suggestions there for former players to visit. We’ll likely have Duncan Shields and Ray Franchetti first as they were lined up to come along when Covid put a hold on things
Looking forward to welcoming old and new members along on Friday at half one in lounge to memories group. It will be great to have a blether about all things Rovers again, accompanied by a pie of course.

A good meeting today with 11 attendees.
One point of discussion was thoughts on who should be added to the Rovers Hall of Fane.
Various names were mentioned including Tommy Fagan which the person who suggested it admitted it would be controversial.

Hall of Fame or Hall of Infamy?

Can understand the controversy over this but he did try to promote the club at the highest level especially when on the SFA Committee- and is heart was always with the club despite the offload at cheap prices for some great players that we did not get the true worth of. Was at the helm of some truly wasted potential of the club ! but equally did keep the club alive - judgement call here ?

A great restart to the Memories Group yesterday. A good blether about all things Rovers. Great to see everyone after a gap of 16 months, especially 2 of our long-standing supporters, Matt Peat and John Smith who both remember their first matches in the early 1940s. Next meeting on Friday 16 July at 1.30.

First attendance at the group and a very enjoyable 90 minutes which passed very quickly. And yes Brian I suggested auld Tam. He was an integral part of the Rovers for many years and you certainly can’t argue that he is probably one of the biggest ‘characters’ we have ever had but he was Marmite to a lot of folk. A hall of fame is to celebrate people who have made big or memorable contributions to a club, be that on or off the park. So surely he deserves to be in the running

On behalf of my Dad (John Smith) a big thank you to the Memories group. The focus has been in younger people being particularly badly hit by the pandemic (and rightly so) but spare a thought for older people who have suffered just as much through lockdown. The Memories group is an excellent way of triggering and stimulating conversation with those who from memory loss. Well done all.

All the best to your dad. All generations have been affected by this with many of us having every enjoyable part of our lives taken away. All lives matter.

We had a really interesting discussion about possible future Hall of Fame inductees. Lots of different suggestions but there was agreement that the person should have made an impact at the club over a number of years and that it should potentially cover the whole history of the Rovers. From memory some of the suggestions were: Matt Carson Danny Hagen Bernie Slaven Jock Stein Tom Fagan Ray Franchetti John Brogan John Greene Peter Dickson Tommy Sermanni Davie Main Kevin McAllister The Cup Final Team 1920
It was agreed that we have had some great players and characters on our books over the years.
