Thought this was a list of folk invited to speak at the Memories group.
Wondered why Duncan Shields, Vic Kasule among others were not listed.
Would disagree with a few potential Hall of famers listed above.
Bernie Slaven walked out on the Rovers. Jock Stein did well elsewhere, what did he do for Rovers? Tom Fagan, seriously?

It would certainly pose some problems getting the 1920 cup final side to a meeting!

Ultimately what will happen with the HoF is it will get filled from players of recent past- that’s not a criticism by the way just an observation. There are players from the late 1930’s early 40’s when Rovers had a really good team but even my Dad can vaguely remember them.
I don’t agree with instantly ruling a nomination out on basis that someone didn’t like. Tom Fagan rarely made the start of a Rovers game as he was always coming late from watching a Junior or amateur game to see the latest talent for Rovers. I might not like how he handled the club overall but he did have an impact- no question.

We should definitely do more to recognise players from the early days of the club's history rather those we can personally remember.
Also, should not have anyone that a sizable chunk of supporters would bitterly oppose (which rules out a certain ex-Chairman....come to think of it, it rules out most ex-Chairmen).
I've mentioned before about Simon Scott and Jimmy Conlin:
Simon Scott: - Founder member of the club in 1882 - Played in every position for the team, usually as captain - Became Match Secretary, but still played in emergencies up to the age of 47 - Was on the first board of Directors in 1919 - remaining there for 20 years until 1939 (2 years before he died).
A total of 57 years service to the club at all levels - shouldn't just be in the Hall Of Fame, but should be No. 1 in it.
Jimmy Conlin: - played for Rovers from 1901-04; fast and tricky winger on the field (and a colourful character off it) who helped us win the Scottish Combination Championship in 1901/02 and get to the Qualifying Cup Final in 1903. - transferred to Bradford City; played for England v Scotland at Hampden in 1906 - then transferred to Man City for £1,000 - which made him (jointly) the most expensive player IN THE WORLD. - killed serving in WW1 in 1917.

That’s a fair shout on Simon Scott and Jimmy Conlin. Probably the only Chairman of recent past who was universally liked and credited with keeping the Rovers’ head above water is Frank Meade.

We should definitely do more to recognise players from the early days of the club's history rather those we can personally remember. Back in 2006, whilst on my way to Zeebrugge to get the ferry back to Hull after a business trip , I stopped off to pay my respects at Nieuport Memorial to the Missing in West Flanders, Belgium where Jimmy Conlin is commemorated. Like thousands of other soldiers, British, Commonwealth and German across the Western Front, he has no known grave, just his name on this memorial, along with more than 500 other British soldiers

Great turnout today to hear Dunky and Ray recall their times at the Rovers as players and managers. Some great stories of characters from the past.

Ray Franchetti and Dunky Shields were 2 absolute legends for Rovers.
Loved watching them both and they gave everything for the jersey in every game they played.
Just saw Nanooks post saying Bernie Slaven 'walked out on Rovers' !!
Let me see now. A full time contract with Middlesborough which led to International caps or stay and slug it out for 2nd bottom spot with Rovers.

Ray Franchetti was one of the managers when Bernie was with us and tells us he was willing to sign but wanted a signing on fee that auld Tam refused to pay. But for the lack of £200 we could have had him for another season at least.
