The jury is still out as far as fan owned clubs are concerned. No it isn't. It has been proved that fan owned clubs are a very successful model and can even save clubs from oblivion - look at AFC Wimbledon, Exeter and Portsmouth. In Scotland Motherwell, St Mirren, Annan and Stirling Albion seem to be doing it well enough, with Hearts, Partick Thistle and Morton soon to follow. Nearly all the Bundesliga clubs are fan owned under their 50+1 rule (and Bayern are even better at 75%), as are Barcelona, Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao. Of course any model of club ownership can be well run if they have the right people, but then you've also got to hope a dodgy businessman doesn't take over and drive you to oblivion (Bury, Darlington, Hereford, Scarborough, Third Lanark, Gretna, Rangers)! As to the question, the answer is that Rovers will be in the Lowland League in 5 years time (or earlier) unless we can deal with the share structure of the club, which is dragging us down.

The Pyramid system has changed the dynamics of the lower senior leagues in Scotland forever . It would be fair to say that the word Seniors is now cast into history. The so referred to as ambitious clubs coming into the Scottish League or attempting to e.g. Cove/Kelty/Bonnyrigg ? / Auchinleck ? is challenging to clubs like ourselves. We certainly need a reappraisal of our whole structure as the status quo is no longer a guarantee of continual entrenchment in division 2. What is frustrating is that we could not have not sustained our lofty position of 5/6 years previously when we were knocking on the door of play offs for the Championship ! When you look at Arbroath I often wonder could that have been us !! A lot of soul searching and steady nerve is required over the coming years to keep this proud club in is rightful place !

Fair comment Rab. But again in my opinion the two best run part time clubs are in Angus and you’re right it does boil down to the individuals. I’ll be honest everytime we have a managerial vacancy I sh!t myself. It was the infamous 3 man committee (mainly made up of fans) that made a managerial appointment which set Rovers back 20 years. Again just my opinion.

Having not seen the programme I can only guess what was written but: It seems, with each passing year, the margins between survival and the lowland league become smaller and smaller. So three questions come from that sentence. 1) Should our aim always be survival? 2) How do we prevent ourselves falling/slipping down like Berwick or East Stirlingshire? 3) If we go into the lowland league, what will happen, do we drop further, get promoted or stay put for the future? As is always the answer, money dictates everything. It seems to me lowland league clubs (and lower) pay more dosh than us to get a better quality player. So we either pay more for players (and run ourselves into the ground) or produce players (the u-23s is maybe a source/juniors. We are centrally-based - surely this is a pull for part-time players). Or we increase revenue? Increasing revenue can either happen through sponsorship or bodies in the stadium. Maybe there is another way, I am not sure. But the question asked, and it is a good question, fills me with dread. Speaking as a student I feel that one way to get bodies in would be using social media to promote the club and games for example As Roma have been able to gain a lot more fans thanks to the twitter account they run I think through the power of social media combined with promotional events we could get more people through the turnstiles which would then lead to more money for the club

A follow up question to where will we be in 5 years time?
How do we improvement the "match day experience" at the San siro?
Thats probably key to getting folk to return each week.

I had a chat with Eddie about this topic a good few weeks ago and said it it’s a good question to ask but it has to be backed by a plan and ideas of how you are going to get to where you want to be. He said he/ the BOD would put meat on the bones of a plan with details. It would be good to get a debate started around the board’s ideas and get fans involved in taking the plan for our future forward.

As an exile, I don't know the answer to this but do the club have anyone who goes into the local schools, to promote the club, maybe do some coaching sessions, while there, give out free tickets to the kids. I understand it's hard as everyone is part time, but has it been tried. Maybe do a voucher offer in the advertiser, adult for a concession price, free child with any adult etc. Must be worth a go, but you would need the shop and food bar open as kids have pester power
