Among our band of 300 fans we have many different characters. Some entertain us with their humour, some cheer on the team with voices you could hear at Dunbeth Park and others have an ongoing dialogue with the stand side linesman telling him how well he is doing. But there are others who quietly come and quietly go, standing at the same place at every match.
One of the latter was my relative and friend Billy Irving who lost his fight to cancer last week at the age of 62. A Coatbridge man all his days he was a a long-standing member of the Rovers family. One of his great joys was to get his season ticket every year and come along to every home game to cheer on his beloved local team. Quietly. Like us all he lived in hope, treasuring the few high points. His particular favourites were the 7-2 Guy Fawkes Day massacre of Airdrie and our 1-1 victory in the quarter final of the Scottish Cup at Ibrox.
Maybe not known to many at the club, I still wanted to mark Billy's passing. A quiet and good man and faithful Rovers supporter.

Nice chap, Billy, I first encountered him in the Junior BBs/Lifeboys back in the unswinging sixties. He’ll be sadly missed. RIP, Billy.

So sorry to hear about Billy. Had only heard a few weeks ago that he was ill and deeply saddened to hear he has passed away. Before seeing him at Cliftonhill, also knew Billy through BB where he attended annual camps as well as many other activities. Condolences to his family and friends.
