Surely this HAS to be a resounding Rovers victory today! I'll go for 4-0 to us to march into the 3rd round. Yep, wasn't far off there😉 Thank goodness we turned it on in extra time and finally buried them. Their keeper played a blinder of a game though & kept them in it at times.

Shoulda been 3 up at half time. Only highlights how bad off we are for a striker. Both Max Wright and Michael Paton look unfit and slow as treacle. Thought Paton was particularly poor. We need a striker asap for our league campaign or it’s Lowland League here we come.
A home draw would do me.

Rovers played a lot of good football but finishing a problem for sure. Mind you, I am not complaining about a 4-1 win. Take that any day. The Uni boys played well but were knackered by extra-time.

I must have been at a different game. I thought we were dire throughout the ninety minutes and frequently lacked appetite for the game. And why is our manager doing nothing but walking around shaking his head like Todd Lumsden. Uninspiring to say the least. We dodged a bullet. As for the e-ticketing. An unsurprising farce. Only just made the kickoff with plenty still outside. One turnstile open until five to three. Reminded me of Hampden. It ain't the future.

The Glasgow Boys take most of the plaudits once the darkness descended over Airdrie. When we scored, I thought that was it - so did most of the away players, I think. But fair credit to the Uni for their second half commitment. We eventually got through and there are still plenty of potential cannon fodder in the draw - but also some pretty good sides who have the unfortunate non-league tag but can frighten us - Linlithgow/Auchinleck /Darvel etc -let's hope things are favourable and a glamour tie in the distant future is still on the radar.

OMG if we had a striker games wld be so much easier for us, Why can’t the manager see that 🙄 Martin, hidden away in the news section of the official Albion Rovers website you will find a wide-ranging interview with Brian Reid that includes the following quote: ‘ I am getting close to waking up in the middle of the night shouting striker,” Reid joked. “It is the bane of my life at the moment. We want to bring in a striker and it is something I am working on day and night. It is difficult because the loan market is shut. “We don’t want to bring in someone for the sake of it. They need to be an asset to the team and be able to come in and make an impact. The hunt is very much still on.” Hope that puts your mind at rest, Martin.

For what it’s worth I thought Scott Roberts, normally deployed as a winger, did pretty well when he replaced Max Wright as the spearhead of Rovers front line. Scott’s pace and directness injected new life into Rovers attack, and provides B Reid with a useful back-up striking option in the weeks to come.

We totally dominated in terms of possession and attempts. They had one real chance in 120 minutes and scored.
At the back big Sonkor and his cb partner were solid. Wilson and Reilly totally ran the show but we really do need a striker. For all our pressure and chances, we had no one to convert them.
Max Wright is never going to win the ball in the air - why we kept lumping it to him I'll never know. Agree, when Roberts came on he changed the game.
Keiran dolan - he is a recognised striker. Why does he only get thrown on at the end of games? Am I missing something?
Thought Blair Malcom was very solid as usual too.
Extra time came and the uni boys legs were done.

I am starting to get frustrated with reilly spending half the game sitting on his backside moaning he never got a foul,
Hes a great player but would create even more chances if he just got on with it,

We'll that was a frustrating afternoon, but the bottom line is that we are through to the next round. I can understand why folk wouldn't be happy yesterday, but truth be told the only danger we were in was if it went to penalties, and that would have been a toss up - Rovers must have had 80% possession over the piece, and the Uni had two half chances being generous, even if one did creep in.
What is highlighted from the game, to the real surprise of nobody, is our striking woes; even against a blanket defence, we had the chances to be well out of sight in the first half alone.
My man of the match would be Wilson who was the main attacking spark yesterday, covering every blade of AstroTurf, even if he did seem to try too hard at times.

Yip, Callum Wilson was the standout again yesterday, and Chalie Reilly also. A 4-1 win is fine by me.

Not the best highlights which is unusual for the SFA. For a start their camera operator (can't say cameraman anymore) was situated in an odd place well away from the centre line camera platform where Tommy Cooper was set up. They're zoomed in far too often, and they managed to miss the penalty incident although did show the penalty being scored.
