Community Trust October 2022
It has been a busy old month and it’s not over yet! A big announcement is coming later! Ooooh!
We have been running our weekly Walking Football, Wednesday Walkers, Thursday Club and of course our monthly Memories Group, this month with Squib.
The positive impact charitable trusts attached to football clubs can have on communities is well documented nationally. However, being us, we wanted to capture the local picture and so an event to gauge the Social Impact of what we do was held on Friday 14th October in the lounge.
Trustee, Maggie Waterton organised this and was ably assisted by Ronnie and Eddie. 26 people came along representing one or more of our current 6 activities: Buddy Club, Wednesday Walkers, Thursday Club, Memories Group, Men’s Shed and Walking Football. Maggie led very positive small group discussions on the benefits of these activities for the participants and their families and sought views on other activities the Community Trust could consider running. The key words used by participants were: friendship; health; mental wellbeing; fitness; sense of purpose and hope for the future. This information is very useful in itself but will be also extremely useful to us in applications for further funding.
Talking of funding, I am pleased to report that we have paid £500 to the Club for junior season tickets 2022/23. We believe that this has two key benefits – it helps families and the Club in these difficult financial times and helps build the fan base for the future – also good for ARFC.
As you know, at the start of the month, we appointed Ross Paterson as our Community Development Officer and to say he has got off to the flyer would be accurate.
He organised and ran a three-day football camp during the school holiday week. Despite not being allowed to use the pitch and rain pouring down, he made it a brilliant success. The comments from families and fans are very positive indeed. His next venture for this age group will be at Christmas – details to follow.
In the meantime, thanks for all your ongoing support and positive vibes.
