This week marks the 140 anniversary of the founding of Albion Rovers FC. The actual date is lost in the mists of time but there is evidence to suggest it was shortly before the end of October in 1882 and against all the odds the Rovers have had a 140 unbroken year run of being the pride of Coatbridge.
To mark the occasion this Saturday 29th October, the Community Trust and Supporters Trust are jointly subsidising some prices in the cafe, with a Pie and Bovril costing £1.40.
This marks the anniversary and provides a bit of support to our community in current cost of living crisis.
We are also having special intergenerational mascots with a combined age of 140 for the match against Stenhousemuir that day.
There will be further community and supporter led events before 2022 ends. Watch this space!

Great idea. I retweeted to A View from the Terrace. Hope they mention it as we face Stennie.
Think I'll take my wife for a £1.40 lunch on Saturday 😁😁
Well done to all involved.
Look forward to the £140 season ticket next... Worth a try 😂

Brilliant initiative by both Trusts. Of course offer also includes any hot drink!

This seemed to go well today with long queues forming at half time in particular.

Yes,A very nice gesture from the Community Trust and Supporters Trust and very popular by the sounds of it and the fans certainly appreciated by the looks of it. Just a pity the club aren’t involved more with the 140 years celebration from the board room, Indeed it appears one wasn’t even in attendance at the game -He was through in Glasgow watching one of the big 2 (scouting perhaps🤷♂️)

Albion Rovers Football Club is 140 years old in 2022 and the phrase ‘a club like no other’ has become a bit of a cliche, but in our case, it’s accurate! The fans are the Club.
We are keen to make sure this fantastic unbroken 140 year record is celebrated. As you know, the Supporters Trust bought a new strip for the first team that acknowledges the colours worn in the first 80 years of our history. It’s great to see 1st team wear this in season 2022/23.
On the match day nearest the actual birthday, 29/10/22, the Trusts organised a family of fans - with ages adding to 140!- to be mascots for the game against Stenhousemuir, Hugh, Stephen and Marc Cairney had a wonderful time and thanks to Eddie Hagerty, Club Director, enjoyed half time hospitality in the board room. Unfortunately, they didn’t get to enjoy a win over Stenny.
Our second birthday present to fans was the £1.40 Pie and Bovril on Saturday 29th October. This present not only recognised the anniversary but was one of our ways of supporting our community in the current cost of living crisis. There are further poverty proofing activities in the pipeline.
The next match day 140 year event will be held on Saturday 19th November at the game v Stranraer. Our fabulous photographer fan Iain McLean will be taking a full crowd photograph at half time. The prints will then be available for purchase at - yes you’ve guessed it - £1.40!
At half time, with the help of the announcer, we will ask any fans who'd like to participate to move to the side of the stand near the Directors Box. The intrepid Photo McLean will be atop a trackside stepladder.
But don’t worry, you don’t need to remember the details, members of the Community and Supporters Trusts and of course Gerry and Terry (safety guys) will be on hand to direct and assist.
