Hope you and the family are bearing up, Buchanan.
As others have said, your Dad was quite a man. I always enjoyed a chat with him, and he definitely knew his football, past and present. I'm another who'll miss seeing that hat - another mark of a true Gentleman.

Such sad news. A real Rovers legend who epitomised everything good about our great wee club. A wonderful, kind, generous, wise … I could go on and on…man who will never be forgotten. Many great memories of time spent in John’s company. Long away trips, last minute wins, defeats, rowdy AGM’s, poty awards, flag raising, film premieres even!!.
Thoughts are with Bucky and the rest of the Smith family.

Great to see the family along today Buchanan. The minute’s applause and the tribute in the programme were a fitting mark of respect to John :a true gentleman and a great Rovers’ supporter.

I will genuinely miss John's patter, despite the obvious age gap,
Great to see so many of the family there today with smiles on their faces.
We will always be able to look back on the wee anecdotes he told us to make us laugh.

Lovely tribute. I've shed a tear or more and am sad not to have seen him more often over the years but John was a real gentleman, with the kind of humour that you often need when supporting The Rovers. Again, Buchanan, Wilma & all his family, you had a lovely Dad, husband, Granddad in John.
