It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of former player Duncan Shields.
Particularly sad news at this time of the year. Duncan was a formidable defender and favourite (and cult hero) of many who attended the games back then.
Condolences to his family and all who knew him.
The Board of Directors.

So sorry to hear about “Big Dunky”. Not so long since he and Ray Franchetti were guests at our memories group.

Big Dunky was an impressively big, robust, combatative centre half, any opponent knew he had been in a match.
Played 73-79, credited with 158 (league) appearances 18 goals, 81-82, 14 appearances 4 goals.
He had a great rapport with the supporters, although the O'Hare family gave him a hard time, there was an occasion when Dunky was going over the fence to discuss matters further with Cathie, but, fortunately, he was pulled back by a few players.
And a really nice guy, I was lucky enough to chat to him a few times.
Condolences to his family, sad loss.

So saddened to hear this news.
I have fond memories of Big Dunk.
A lovely guy who gave 100% every time he played for us.
Rest in eternal peace Big Dunk.

A sad day . Big Dunky evokes early memories of supporting Rovers. A frequent visitor to Cliftonhill always had time for anyone who wanted to talk to him. Condolences to his family.

If ever the word 'Legend' should be used in describing a player then it is for this guy.
Colossus of a defender and one of the very few Rovers players who ever had his own song.
R.I.P Dunky.

So sad to hear of this - one of my boyhood hero's . He was such a commanding figure in defence and when you seen his name on the team sheet you felt a bit more confident for Rovers that day - Was an effective goal scorer at times too and scored many a vital goal in his time - we could do with his type today -RIP Dunky

I still remember, as an 11 year old, squeakily singing the famous 'six fit two, eyes of blue, big daft Dunky's after you, nanananananananana!!' at most matches. I was starstruck about three years ago when both Duncan and my other total hero, Ray Franchetti, spoke to me at half time at a home match.
