Great result, although I was obliged to feel sorry for QP as my Queen's Park supporting pal was with me. Relentless QP pressure in the second half, but absolutely superb goals from the Rovers. Oh and what a save from Ross in goals: saved the game for us.5th in the league: brilliant. I think that might have been the first QPvRovers match in a higher league since the mid-1930s. A great win today. The last top flight match was in the 1938-39 season. Results for the season were: 22.10.1938 Albion Rovers 1-3 Queen's Park 25.02.1939 Queen's Park 1-2 Albion Rovers Despite Albion Rovers finishing 16th and Queen's Park finishing 19th (20 teams in the division), Albion Rovers found themselves in Division B and Queen's Park were in Division A when competition resumed after WW2 for the 1946-47 season. Apparently, according to this website: www.nozdrul.plus.com/zfeweb/scotland/league/scotdivs.html"Both divisions were suspended during WWII. After the war clubs were placed in Divisions A and B according to their 1939-40 status except that Queen's Park and Morton were placed in Division A and St. Johnstone, Ayr United, Albion Rovers, Arbroath, Cowdenbeath and Alloa Athletic were placed in Division B. Former Division Two clubs Brechin City, East Stirlingshire, Forfar Athletic and Montrose were placed in Division C along with new club Stirling Albion, the now defunct Edinburgh City and Leith Athletic, and Dundee Res, Dundee Utd Res and St. Johnstone Res. " Sounds like some skullduggery to me. Albion Rovers were in 7th position in Division 1 after 5 matches when the league was stopped in 1939-40 for WW2.

Cracking day for a game of football. Sun shining over Coatbridge and 3 guaranteed points; what more can you ask for?
The pre-match warm up once again took place at the 'wrong' end of the ground. Why have we changed where we warm up? Is it some superstitious thing? Does anyone know? It's only pre-match because at half time our guys use the Coatbridge end. It's keeping me awake at night so I'd be grateful for an answer.
The old guy with the drum made a return today. His blend of soulful beats mixed with well-constructed Jazz rhythms and some classic melodies were once again lacking in abundance. Seriously I don't know why he bothers. As long as he's happy I suppose. His drum is surviving on the good grace of those standing around him but I reckon it's only a few poor performances away from not making the journey home......
We started with McBride again at left back and do you know what, he's actually quite decent there. No way back for Kyle in this current set up I feel and harsh though that may be it is a fact of footballing life.
The first 20 mins or so saw a fairly open game. A few half chances at either end but nothing more. And then the breakthrough came. BoyDuBryne picked the ball up inside his own half. He dummied a few Queens players and then fooled two more with some neat step overs. He strode forward, pausing briefly to raise some money for charity. He waltzed past two more Queens defenders and happily posed for a selfie with some adoring fans; including me obviously. He did a couple of keepie uppies whilst helping an old lady back to her seat and then rounded the goalkeeper using a combination of a hocus pocus and a round the worldy. He finished with an overhead bicycle kick which finished in the top corner and we were 1-0 up.
Okay so a slight (!) bit of poetic licence there. Truth is my son was late for the game today. So being the nice father that I am, I said I'd go and get his tea. So off I trots into the wee portacabin thing. So this is something I never, ever do as I don't like missing any of the game. There's a queue of 1 person in there but the guy in front of me is putting about 20 sugars in his tea; seriously! Net result is I miss the goal! Anyway, seems BoydyRashford scored from about the edge of the box. He really is a player and a half. Not interested too much in defending although he will chase back when he loses the ball. He was man of the match again today and although there were some other decent performances he thoroughly deserved it. In fact I'm not sure what the prize for man of the match is - bottle of wine it looked like - but they might as well cut out the middle man and just deliver a crate of the stuff to the BoydyMuller house and be done with it. I don't see anyone else getting a look in this season.
Into the second half and QP put us under a fair bit of pressure and had most of the possession. They had one great chance from a header which Ross brilliantly tipped over the bar but apart from that didn't threaten much. Their tactic of crosses into the box just didn't work and although that was fairly obvious to all and sundry they didn't vary it. Thanks for that Gus.
We created two chances - both from mega long ball clearances from keeper Ross. The first fell to Ryan who dragged his shot wide with just the keeper to beat. It was a sitter and a poor effort. The second clearance fell to Fish and following some neat passing, found its way to Ryan who drifted inside before skelping an unstoppable shot from about 20 yards for 2-0 with almost the last kick of the game.
So that's the first 3 of our guaranteed 12 points from QP this season. Seriously Gus must hate us. The guy next to me said he looks like a demented Oompa Loompa on the touch line. I felt that was being a bit harsh........... on the Oompa Loompas, ha! His wee torn face as he left the pitch at the end said it all really!
No complaints then on a day when we broke the world record for having the highest number of players called Ross in the one football team. Crowd was 444, probably half and half Rovers and QP fans. Following 'pigeon-sh1t-gate' from our previous home game I thought I'd do my bit today to keep the stadium clean. I saw a QP fan drop a sweetie paper and I gave him a really stern look. I don't see him doing that again. Not at our ground anyway.

Oh dear, QP fans reverting to type on P and B: complaining about Rovers' 'thuggery' against all that fine amateur passing Corinthian football. Same old arrogance from the bowler-hatted Glasgow middle-classes. They don't like it up 'em. Cannae take a beatin' byraway.

Good result - terrible game though.
We did make heavy weather of it in the 2nd half but fail to understand some of the criticism directed at the manager. Don't know if it's just me but taking a 1-0 lead and then defending stoutly has been the hallmark of Rovers for sometime now - granted it's not brilliant to watch

QP fans are having a laugh. There was only 1 bad tackle in the game - Wallace towards the end which was a deserved booking. Jeez, Fish didn't even get booked although he wasn't on the park long to be fair.
It was fairly brutal viewing in the second half. We didn't offer much going forward but then we never do or did for that matter. Our more direct style of play means we are scoring far more goals than in previous seasons and that's what wins football matches. QP could still be playing today and they probably wouldn't have scored. They need to smarten up their approach. Tucking their jerseys in would be a good start, at least then they would look the part.
Can't wait until we play them at Hampden and see how much they are charging for a tea this year. I might take a flask. At least then I wouldn't miss any of the action.

Three Rovers' wins in 4 games; 10 scored, 3 conceded; third top scorers in the division. Not bad. QP (superior team obviously) 5 goals in total. 7 defeats in a row to Rovers. Sounds good tae me!!
