The following has been cut from the report of the SPFL annual meeting held on 23/7/23.
At the meeting clubs also voted unanimously to approve:
A recommendation from the club licensing and membership criteria advisory group chaired by Iain McMenemy of Stenhousemuir that all SPFL clubs be required to have a bronze licence in terms of Scottish FA club licensing.
As I alluded to earlier, a self preservation society that clearly was uninterested in, or didn't consider, the impact further down the line. The principles of the pyramid system has been destroyed by those who voted for this. Anybody with the remotest understanding of Scottish football clubs will be aware that there are currently only about 22-24 clubs that can justifiably see themselves as genuine Championship or Premiership standard, the current clubs in those leagues plus Inverness and Queen of the South. The clubs below that level should only need Entry Level until they gain promotion from League 1, and be given a period of grace to enable them to reach Bronze Level.
Falkirk and Hamilton have just been promoted into the Championship. The next two in League 1 were Alloa and Montrose. Are they, or the teams below them bigger than ARFC, Brechin, Stranraer, Berwick??? NAW, so why should they be allowed to create/vote for a rule that potentially kills off clubs who have a bad season or two. A cartel any way you look at it. Disgraceful!!!!!

I remember all the issues a few seasons back with Falkirk not being allowed Premier League status because they did not have a 10,000 all seater stadium in place . This saved Aberdeen from being relegated. Protectionism has come in all forms over the years and this Bronze nonsense is probably due to the fact that so many current clubs in division 1 and 2 must be starting to feel the heat of demotion and non return in a lifetime! The Pyramid system is a joke and the recent Buckie scenario reinforces that.

If they're not happy perhaps they could get VAR to look at it!

Sports Minister Maree Todd has agreed to attend a meeting of Lowland League clubs next month to address their concerns over the governance of Scottish football. The SFA and SPFL were summoned to a Holyrood summit on the future of the game earlier this month, with another round table meeting scheduled for later this year. Before then, Todd will attend a meeting of Lowland League clubs on September 5, as the simmering row over guest-team invites for the SPFL Trust Trophy rumbles on.
