Sunderland have reportedly accepted a £12M from Southampton . Does this make him the most expensive ex-Rover? Rab Crangle will settle this one. Jimmy Conlin moved from Bradford to Man City in 1906 for £1000 which made him the joint most expensive player in the world.

I don’t have extensive records, but I can’t think of anyone else who played for Rovers who would come remotely close to that amount. Allen McKnight going from Celtic to West Ham for a reported £250k in 1988 may be the next biggest.

Even with inflation since 1906 that comes out at about 100k Amazing move for big Ross. He has put some amount of effort in especially since it looked like his inital move to St Mirren was a bit of a bust. A friend of a friend is a Sunderland fan and absolutely raves about what he brought to their team. This is the sort of thing that helps get players into the club, your not coming to Cliftonhill because your career is on the down, it can be a good launching pad!

A neighbour of mine who's also a Sunderland fan says exactly the same thing....Ross absolutely lit up the team, being both a prolific scorer and assistant! Good luck to Ross with Southampton. He could help them get back to the Premier Division.
