The Memories Group will start back after its summer break on Friday 15 September. One wee change that day: we will start at 1 pm to fit in with our guest’s commitments.

Our first guest of the new season of the Memory Group will be John McKendrick. John is a former referee and seen by many in the game as one of the last of the character referees. Also John seemed to have a soft spot for the Rovers, something that can’t be said for too many refs.
A wee reminder that the meeting will start at 1 pm on Friday 15 September.

McKendrick was one ofthe better refs and he did have a soft spot for Rovers. He refereed the 2nd leg play off final at Annan when Rovers won promotion

My abiding memory of John is in a 4-4 draw at Cliftonhill against Cove Rangers. We had scored and the linesman indicated it was offside. Not only did John overrule the linesman but took off up the park with his arm in the air looking very much like he was celebrating the Rovers scoring.
Looking forward to hearing John’s stories.

John was an excellent guest. Informative, open and entertaining. He gave a real insight into life as a referee in Scotland.
Our next meeting will be at 1.30 on Friday 20 October when your guest will be a past and present player.
