I'll go for a reasonably satisfying 1-1

Agree David, that would be a good result at a very difficult venue.
However, being greedy and having predicted the Livi away result correctly, I'll again back the MIGHTY 'Vers for a shock 1-0 victory at Recreation Park tomorrow!!
C'MON THE MIGHTY 'VERS!!!!

Tough game. Heart says 0.0 but head says narrow defeat for the rovers today.

The football equivalent of the great escape, it was backs to the wall defending for most of the game with the odd break away and we nearly pinched it once Scott went up front and some. great saves from Ross in goals a point very much gained !

Great point today at the metropolis which is Alloa. No BoydAguerro in the team today so I'll need to find someone else to rave about - step forward Gary Fisher, more on him later.
My first time in Alloa and the locals seemed friendly enough. The stadium is quite quaint with a slightly unusual upper tiered main stand with a standing area underneath. We were in the Subbuteo stand on the far side. A kind of glorified gazebo construction that looked like a mild gust of wind might destroy it. Fortunately Prof was on the sauce and not the beans so the stand remained intact.
We didn't really make our customary bright start as Alloa were in our faces from the off. They move the ball quite nicely and in midfield and upfront they have a number of really young looking guys who seem to be able to run all day. Most of the time Alloa worked the ball down our left hand side and put crosses into the box. But to be fair we gobbled most of them up with everyone playing their part. My criticism is that we sat too deep. Way too deep in fact we were so deep I thought we might need a decompression chamber for our guys at half time.
A quick word though on Jim Goodwin before I forget. What a horrible player he is. And a moaning faced b@st@rd to boot. He's decent enough at this level but really needs to wind his neck in. And the refs need to get him sorted, starting with booking him for boring them to death. He was never out of the referees face.
We survived wave after wave of Alloa attacks and when we did clear the ball forward, Ryan was isolated and although he worked hard we couldn't really get out of our own half at all. Having said that the best chance of the half fell to Mick when he had a free header from a corner which he directed straight at Parry. A couple of other half chances fell mainly to Alloa, but for all their pressure, they didn't really look like scoring.
The second half saw more of the same. Alloa attacked for the first 20 minutes or so of the half but apart from two decent chances, never really looked like scoring. Ross in goal had 2 good saves. The first he pushed over the bar, the second was a reaction save down to his right hand side. The Alloa players and fans made a half-hearted claim for the ball being over the line but the ref was having none of it - the proper ref that is, not Goodwin. Well I say proper but he was murder throughout.
The turning point for me was the introduction of Fish. His first touch was a sliding tackle - of course it was. Thereafter he patrolled in front of the back 4 and set up 3 counter attacks in quick succession. Ross Davidson should have done better with a shot from the edge of the box and then McBride shot wide. The best chance started with Fish releasing McBride down the left. His cross was laid on a plate for Ryan who I have to say absolutely bottled it big style as Parry came out and never got a touch. That should have been the classic sucker punch goal but in truth would have been slightly more than we deserved over the piece. So a plea to Darren - whatever the problem is with you and Fish you really need to kiss and make up. Quickly. He has to start against Airdrie.
No real stand outs today but some fairly heroic performances nearly all round. Keeper Ross had some good saves. Mick and brother Ross were solid at the back. Reidy was great and has been so the last few weeks. Ryan worked hard up front mainly on his own. Scott McBride looked good in defence and also when pushed further forward when Kyle came on. I'm still not convinced about Willis. He did okay but he has no real pace and is quite lazy I think. He loses possession too easily as well for me. Mark Ferry is a bit of a passenger too. As soon as he gets the ball his first thought is always to turn back towards our goal and virtually every pass is backwards. He was solid enough in the tackle today and probably just about gets pass marks. But he's not Fish!!!
Alloa will think they were unlucky and they did have a lot of possession without really threatening much. Rovers were resolute and did enough to deserve a point. With a bit of luck we could have pinched a goal at the end. Certainly we've learned from the 4-0 game earlier in the season.
Fifth in the league and after a shaky-ish start we seem to have found our feet in this league this season. Decent travelling support today too.

Great point and thought Ross in goal was superb and really improved over recent weeks. Far more confident and making vital saves. Well done guys. And the Prof bought me a drink! Cheers mate!

I think d7 hit the nail on the head with "no real stand outs": like the Livi match, everybody simply put in a very determined shift and we got something out of a game where the possession stats might suggest we should have got nothing. I got into a conversation with one of their supporters who was impressed with said determination. In the end we might even have nicked it, which would have been very rough on Alloa, but we'd have gladly taken it. Bring on Clydebank!

Well now, having seen results both bad and ugly down the years at Recreation Park (or insert random sponsor name here) for Rovers, it's finally nice to see an outcome that falls under the good category, at least relatively speaking.
As frustrating as the game this afternoon was to watch, it's fairly obvious that Darren and Billy had judged the tactics to perfection. Alloa were always going to attack at home, especially with a sympathetic (emphasis on the pathetic?) referee - least said the better - but Rovers gave them enough rope to hang themselves, and it almost paid off big style with an ultra-uncomfortable Parry, despite being redundant the vast majority of the time, looking the shakiest man present. Alloa had the possession, but Rovers had the chances; the home side had no idea what to do with the final ball apart from lump it into the box and hope for the best. Not with the Dunlop siblings awaiting my friends, no sirree. That being true, Ross Stewart (the one between the sticks) pulled off two good saves, with one shot tipped over the bar and one point-blank reaction save at his near post, with the mob behind the goal howling at the sky in vain for a goal; not happening hombres, no chance. That was the sum total of the threat from the Wasps - the only other clear-cut chance saw two Alloa player take each other out in the six-yard box. The onus was theirs, but it bore no fruit.
For all their domination, Alloa rarely threatened, even with the laughable antics of Spence looking for a soft advantage - look at me, I fell over! - and the perennial nonsense from Goodwin. Indeed, Rovers had more than one penalty claim - is Goodwin that immune that he can punch a ball in the penalty box with impunity? - but I digress. This was a well-thought out, disciplined performance that reaped the desired rewards, a precious point away from home, with all three not too far away. Congratulations all round.
Special mention to Connor Shields, who made an admirable first-team debut in that bear-pit and, despite a little shakiness at times, came through just fine. Well done lad. Star performer though must be Ross Stewart, who has had his detractors, but has bounced back in fine style.
Now, on to next Saturday.

Agree with comments expressed about the game. It was a gritty performance against a side that will probably be in the shake up at the end of the season. I thought that we had the better clear cut chances and with a bit more composure in front of goal could have achieved all 3 points. Jim Goodwin used his experience of being able to fall in the right way to gain an advantage at times - the referee oblivious to his past know doubt ! Now for Gordon's Radio Clyde side - a repeat of the last Bonfire night encounter would do nicely !

The guys did superbly yesterday at a very difficult venue. Agree - we could just have snatched all 3 points however a point is a great return.
10 points from our last 15 is brilliant - great form to take into this Saturday's "interesting" game!

Dodgy - there was a guy with a wee camcorder thing recording the game from the 'Rovers' side of the pitch. Might have been for his own private collection right enough.

Restriction on showing extended highlights must have been lifted. Seen quite a few other clubs games the same. Could have grabs all 3 points at the end.
