Great to win 3-0 on a sunny day on the first day of the season!
Still work to do but decent performance from a team still getting to know each other.
Gretna had a decent little spell of pressure but were never going to cause us any serious problems, I think we'd asked our full backs to push on higher and they did very little defending today I'd imagine we'd have them stay back and help against faster teams. Ross was again outstanding in goal.
Really impressed with the young boy (Brown?) who came on upfront, goal and an assist not bad for a debut. Looked composed infront of goal.
Bright has regressed a little and the players around him do look a bit frustrated. Always think he's a much better impact player.
All in job done , our quality showed in the end and it could have probably have been more.
If you want a conspiracy to keep you going I think its significant, that Kai who'd wore 9 in pre-season was 14 today. The 9 is obviously being kept back for our big signing. Perhaps someone who was in attendance today...

From yesterday's lofty position of league leaders due to alphabetical order Rovers now sit in fourth due to other teams scoring a hat full of goals.
After just one game it's hard to see anything better than mid table

How exactly have you come to that gloomy conclusion on the basis of one match played, a 3-0 away victory, WelshRover? Genuinely interested? 🤔

Hi folks, infrequent poster here but I wanted to ask, where did Niyah Joseph go to? I haven't had any success googling and can't see any mention on here. Cheers.

Hi folks, infrequent poster here but I wanted to ask, where did Niyah Joseph go to? I haven't had any success googling and can't see any mention on here. Cheers. Emigrating to Australia. Some Rovers fans think scoring 30 goals in a season doesn’t equate to being a team player. Much better to have a player who does hunners of running about with zero end product. Yes sirreeee that’s a player of the season right there.

After just one game it's hard to see anything better than mid table We aren't going to win the league with big bucks EK still here. Will we finish 2nd? No one knows as we haven't seen enough of the teams. I think we need a clinical striker. Looked solid at the back including Connolly but I do agree Gretna got down the wings a few times. By the way, Gretna much improved and I don't think they'll be at the bottom of the table adrift from every other team. Midfield we were strong but concerning how we dropped off at the beginning of the 2nd half allowing Gretna in. I think 3 nothing flattered us but we shall take it.

1st game of the season away from home, lost 2 thirds of our front 3 from this time last season, we win 3-0 I will take that. Cracking new home strip as well. But alas some still find negatives with everything Albion Rovers . 👍 It’s all about balance, Martin, and not blind optimism. A 0-3 victory away from home in the first game of the season is not to be sniffed at, but there are obvious limitations that, if not addressed soon, I’d imagine will see us finish in a similar position to last year. A good time to assess our progress - or stagnation - will be after just after Hallowen. By then, we’ll have played some decent sides.

Good result, as the first league game is always a banana skin, no matter who you play, or where.
On the basis of the result, I would not be getting carried away, as Gretna 2008 have over the past 3 years been flirting with relegation from the Lowland League. They have been saved by the fact that other clubs who should never have been competing at LL level, namely Vale of Leithen, Dalbeattie Star and Edinburgh Uni, have been rank rotten. Last season, Gretna won 3 of 34 matches, with a win against Edinburgh Uni on the last day of the season saving them from relegation. It ended Gretna 12 points, Edinburgh 9 points. I would hazard a guess that Gretna 2008 will be favourite for the chop this season.
I took in the Caley Braves v Gala Fairydean match, which ended 6-0 to the home team. That result suggests an absolute hammering for the visitors, but it was far from it. The difference between the teams was mainly as a result of Gala fielding a goalkeeper who was probably the smallest goalkeeper that I have ever seen at adult level. If he is 5 ft 9 inches I would be surprised. I checked the transfermarkt website afterwards, Gala do not have a goalkeeper registered, so possibly an outfield player stepping in, or a trialist from a youth or amateur team.
Four of the goals could have been avoided, the first a corner, headed in from inside the 6 yd box, goalie nowhere near the cross. The second, a shot from the edge of the box that trundled inside a post, with the goalie not moving a muscle. Then, an inswinging corner that he palmed into the net at his front post. He then succeeded in palming the ball onto his crossbar, while trying to turn it over. The ball rebounded into play for a simple nod into the empty net.
I reckon that next Saturday's match is winnable, but it will be a hard fought contest. Very tall goalie, two big aggressive centre halfs, a very competitive central midfield and the bustling Ross McNeil up front, supported by pacy wingers. It should be enjoyable and could go either way (I think).
