From Ronnie: "Albion Rovers are pleased to announce the appointment of David Caldwell as Director of Football at the club. As well as an 18 year career as a professional footballer, mainly in England, David has experience in the sport science side of the game. We wish David all the best in his new role."

While I wish David every success in his new appointment I've got to question whether the Club actually require a Director of Football and more importantly whether the Club can actually afford one.
On another tack I have noticed that a very good and loyal member of the Club has now left. Jason Bell has carried out many different duties for the Club on a voluntary basis for many years like his father Bobby Bell who was head steward for many years. I'm led to believe it was due to a clash of personalities with another member of the management team and I have to ask if those in power were aware of this and, if so, did they take any steps to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, even in my time there, Albion Rovers have a history of not treating loyal people fairly.n

No doubt the Board cheerleaders will be along any minute to tell us how wonderful all this is for the club but I'm not convinced. A DoF at the Rovers, really? Is that our priority? I'd rather have had a couple of new players. Plus what does Darren make of it all? Obviously he's an employee and probably just getting on with it but I can't imagine he's delighted at this.
We're working on a shoestring budget by all accounts so shopping for players where we can find them, using our management team's network of contacts no doubt and unearthing a few decent loanees etc etc. We're not attempting to revolutionise the club and build a sustainable model for the future from our youth teams, through the development leagues and on into the first team and international honours etc.
So a DoF is fine if you're Manchester City; jeez even if you're Airdrie and you have a plan and a vision, gone full time etc. I just don't see us being in that position any time soon without a Russian oligarch appearing on the scene.

Have to agree with the above comments. No need for this appointment and basically another man in a suit. More changes in the background.

Particularly liked the bit where he scored an overhead kick, was sent off multiple times; banned, then became a cult hero. Sound like anyone we know from a year or so ago?!!?! He also seems to be still playing at 56! Maybe we're getting a combined DoF/new Beast. It also reads like he might have written a lot of his wiki page himself.........

I cannot believe that Jason has been hounded out. This is so wrong. Jason is everything that Albion Rovers represents.
I really am very disappointed that this was allowed to happen.
Jason and his late dad were Rovers legends behind the scenes.

Its always change at Rovers, So if am Right, the club is free of Debt with the money we made from the Rangers games, so with the game against celtic coming up, the money we make, should go towards a few new players and some work around the stadium, with saying that the people that look after the stadium do a great job, we just need some new mortar around the place.

I don't usually like it when new, unheard-of directors come in, especially at the opportune moment when we're about to take £100,000 from one match: the silver-tongued Devlin and Gilooly conducted themselves along similar lines, oversaw some success on the pitch (the managers' work), then skipped town never to be seen again, before we all discover that the club's finances have been grossly mismanaged.
Thankfully we now have a trustworthy chairman who could not and will not let anything like that happen. It's a strange appointment all the same, especially since our current assistant manager would be fit to fill the position of Director of Football at just about any club in the country.

Sorry to break the news but the Celtic game merely buys the club some much needed time. The club reported a £78k loss for 2015/16. We are massively overspending on wages so I would have to question this latest appointment if it is paid position. Sorry to hear Jason Bell has departed - he is Rovers through and through (the ballboy who kissed the post when we won the 1989 Championship). First Mary and Andy Allan quit helping the club and now Jason- this is a club that counts on the goodwill of its supporters not the whims of power drunk hangers on who bleed the club dry

OMG guys - can we please treat this appointment as a positive idea.
I doubt the new guy is on a big wage and has been brought in by the Board to push the Club further into debt.
Also - valid comments were previously made around the Club's finances being brought into the public domain.
TRUST THE BOARD!
