-Director of Football Statement-
Moving forward, an important part of this role is to provide good communication to all parties involved at the club.
During the past four months I have been helping the club in the background, supporting them across many areas relating to club business. I have attended shareholder, board and managment meetings during this time, i have watched most games and enjoyed my involvement at the club during this time.
During this period, I was representing the club and was carrying out more duties in support of the board, it made sense at this time to define the role and make it an official role within the club.
The “Director of Football” will provide a layer of management, knowledge and experience at board level, it’s a common role at modern clubs.
The role will provide more focused support to the managers at 1st and development team level. In terms of structure the role will not change anything related to the 1st Team, the director of football will provide a supportive role to the manager, nothing will change in terms of the manager’s role, the manager will still pick the team and will be responsible for preparation and management relating to players and games.
My role is to provide a higher level strategy and support to bring together all the good work being done at community, development and 1st team level, it’s to work on initatives and formulate a plan for football in the modern era, adding value through player development programs, analytics and sports science.
Einstein was quoted as saying “insanity is continuing to do things the same way, expecting the outcome to be different”.
Many clubs, not just Albion are struggling to make ends meet. I hope I can add knowledge, experience and innovation to support the board, coaching staff and provide a positive pathway for the future.
I am passionate around my involvement in game and while I have a related football and sports science business I can allocated time to support the club. Appreciating the financial situation at the club I will carry out these duties and add value on a voluntary basis.
Important two games coming up and i hope all supporters enjoy the games and have a great Christmas.
I will be available at the East Fife game in the supporters lounge from 2pm, if you have any questions please introduce yourself and i will be happy to discuss any areas of interest.
Regards
David Caldwell

Director of Football is one of those jobs that the mere existence of is controversial and I'm sure all Rovers fans wish you well.
P.S. I'd suggest being in the lounge at 12.00 rather than 2.00 as the 2nd half will be just kicking off at that time.

Good to hear from David as quickly as this, maybe put a few thoughts, negative or not to rest.
I have to say that it is important that we are seen to be as professional as we can be on the footballing side of things, hopefully that message will get out to the wider community and perhaps persuade the locals to come and support us.
Good Luck in the new post sir

Fan statement:
Good communication is absolutely essential and can't come quickly enough. There's very little appears on the club website in a timely manner; if at all. We had a new guy on the forum a few weeks ago, biggish fanfare about being a club comms person of some ilk, giving some away match day information etc etc. That lasted for one post.
What would be a good start would be to be a little (well a lot actually) more specific about what the DoF will do, how and by when. So some proper and meaningful communication and preferably a real two-way dialogue. What is explained elsewhere in this thread looks like it has been lifted from a DoF job description and from Chapter 1 of the popular journal: "How to be a good DoF." So big on the theory but light on the practical application. Really light.
I have an example which illustrates the Einstein quote perfectly - putting your centre half up top for the last 10 or so minutes of a game when we are chasing what is almost certainly a lost cause, and expecting him to bag the equaliser and maybe even a winner. Insanity might be stretching it a bit but not by much.
Finances are tight and as you will have worked out for yourself by now the Rovers coffers aren't maybe the best, the income is pretty limited and new revenue streams are difficult to find. I'm clearly not as close to the detail as you and your fellow board members but without money we are going to struggle to make any headway in the modern era. That's a fact. On that basis any support is welcomed, if perhaps with a note of caution, that is provided free. In life there rarely is such a thing as a free lunch.
Every game in this competitive league is important especially when you have just been outplayed for long periods of a game by the team who are currently bottom of the league. It wasn't that enjoyable today but it's better than doing the Christmas shopping.
Having said all of that, good luck to our new DoF. I'll be amazed if it lasts 6 months if I'm honest but time will tell.

In a league where consistency is the difference between a play off and relegation spot we need to look at marginal gains for a competitive edge. Your right only time will tell, but some good points on today and thanks for you tentative support and i can understand why at this time. David

Dcald - if you think there are some good points here on today's game then wait until you get to the thesis on the Stenny thread. "Marginal gains for a competitive edge", seriously? For the record I'm genuinely more than "tentative(ly) supportive" but phrases like that aren't going to do it for me I'm afraid. But maybe that's just me. Once we get to the level of elite sports performance we can maybe exploit this sort of advantage. We have some steps along the way we need to take first I fear.

Some brilliant buzz words in there. Lets see if it gets the people of Coatbridge turning away from the old firm and heading towards Cliftonhill on a Saturday instead.
Have always said I think Darren Young has done a cracking job and the only one thing is that he should have asked for this appointment. If he didn't then its not good in my opinion, voluntary or not.

Marginal gains for a competitive edge.....Guff unless spoken from someone with the likes of Sky TV behind him!IE Brailsford! Succinct and to the point. I think too the statement about "consistency is the difference between a play off and relegation spot" isn't quite right. The only consistent thing about performances in the lower leagues is the inconsistency in performance. That's why you get results like last week where Stenny hammered Airdrie for example. Even in our title winning season 2 years ago we were up and done throughout the whole season. It's the very essence of part time fitba where you have player's jobs getting in the way and long midweek trips to Peterhead to contend with. So I don't have the answer or a silver bullet but I don't think it's necessarily about consistency. Being hard to beat and having a goal scoring striker would probably be top of my list.

Harriskid44, the money donated in the last year by the small band of Squad Fund donors has been used, as it always has been, to make a monthly standing order payment to the club to help pay the players' wages. Thanks again for your contributions - they are very much appreciated. Regards, Bill.
