I've started a new thread so we can discuss the football  The club has been informed today by the SFA that the Scottish Cup 4th round tie against Celtic will be played at the Excelsior Stadium, Airdrie on Sunday 22nd January with a 3pm kick off. Information on ticket sales and prices will be announced soon. |

Surprised that it's at Airdrie's ground after there inflated price the last time. Also strange that it's announced by the SFA. Did we have any say over the venue or was it their decision? Anyway, doesn't matter where we end their treble dreams. Let's hope we have a full squad by then.

Information on ticket sales and prices will be announced soon. Firstly Tee - agree-footie discussion time! Great choice of venue, only 2 miles up the road. So - the stadium owners finally saw sense and quoted a "sensible" price to hire the venue. Should be a 10,000 sell-out and Sky TV coverage as well - brilliant earner for the Rovers. So - how many Millers 53-Seaters will be required for the 2 mile journey??? |

There may never be less pressure on the Rovers than in this game so we may as well play our best eleven, stick to the basics at the back, stay solid in midfield and absolutely go for it up front.
Ryan Wallace will be a significant miss but our cup hero Calum Ferguson will be ready to fill his boots. I'm keen to see more of him, preferably up against Efe Ambrose.

Celtic less than convincing last 3 outings, then again, we have been the same I suppose. It's got a draw written all over it lol. Hopefully.

We don't know if the owners of the Excelsior have come to a more realistic fee for using the stadium.
We may be getting charged the same or more that what we were quoted for the Motherwell game.
As it is an SFA sanctioned choice of venue there is noting we can do but our profit from the tie may be a lot less than had this been played elsewhere.
From a purely footballing perspective it is the right choice.

I cant see celtic fielding a full team,,some young players and fringe duds like ambrose could take part (we live in hope he does).
That said though celtic should still have enough in the ranks to have the tie out of sight early on,,,BUT its a one off tie and sometimes footballs a funny old game.
We have a good goalkeeper and you just know that guys like the dunlop bros and reidy are going to give it absolutely everything they have and you just never know we could frustrate and surprise celtic and many others.
Its no use going all the way to the final though because theres many rovers fans that dont like hampden and refuse to go,,,or will they forget that for a shindig come may??

A new thread? There goes the 20 pages estimate for the old thread. And haven't we started the predictions early? Good to see such enthusiasm for the game. The Astro pitch will be a bit of a leveller and that big Airdrie pitch will suit Celtic a lot more than us. I wonder what the prices and ticketing arrangements will look like? But as long as I get my ticket I won't be caring too much.
