My take on the current situation at the club is that we are running down the worth of our squad, by selling off our best assets, as we have overstretched ourselves financially - read into that what you will.Attendances are woeful, noting Nick 10 ' s previous comments on the messageboard, and as Paul Rovers alluded to - you wouldn't know we had a team in Coatbridge - social media and other outlets are not bring used to maximise the value of the club to the community and town itself.I see Mick Dunlop, Ally Love et all noting that the team will not be developed and further, and thus mass departures in the summer, with us back in the relatively comfortable depths of League 2 again!.Ambition is not a buzzword at Cliftonbill anymore.

Stephen, I have been thinking exactly the same - although I sincerely hope I am wrong. Assuming we cling on to the League One status, will there be an exodus of our best players as happened when Paul Martin`s team retained its League One position by beating Stranraer on penalties. We all know what happened after that - the replacements were simply not good enough and we went back to League 2. Are we seeing parallels now ?

Have to agree with the above comments, seems ambition is out of the window yet again,i can see us back in league 2 sooner than later im afraid.

Does the mid-season departure of (a) a talented and ambitious youngster desperate for full time football and (b)a notoriously huffy and egocentric striker (who I will miss as much as any fan) in his third spell at the club really = lack of ambition?
Those of us present at the Trust meeting on Thursday night certainly didn't get that impression from Pat Gillooly and his fellow directors (or from our new Commercial Manager, a guy with a proven track record of boosting club finances).
Sure, money is tight and crowds are hugely disappointing. That has been the case since I started going to Cliftonhill 50 years ago. And sure, the clubs social media and promotional profile could be a lot better. But at least we now have a BoD 100% committed to staying at (and upgrading) Cliftonhill - the top long term priority for fans like me who campaigned over the years to keep Rovers in Coatbridge.
Before the season began, most of us had a modest short-term ambition for Rovers: to survive in League 1. Despite the recent run of defeats, that still looks a very realistic prospect. And much as I would love Rovers to make the play-offs, I for one would settle for League 1 survival, and take it from there.

Stephen are you suggesting that if a club comes in for one of our players with the offer of full time football that ARFC should stand in his way

Stephen honestly you should join the trust and come along to the meetings because there certainly was no lack of ambition from the chairman or the board, and I think you would have been very surprised at the type of player the club is trying to attract ,unfortunately when a premier league club comes in for them there is very little the club can do about that, but rest assured they are trying very hard to bring in some decent players. Have faith and get behind the players and management and I'm sure our form will return and we can push on for the rest of the season, as I felt on Tuesday we showed a lot more than the Peterhead game and with a bit of luck the result could have been very different. As for Josh going to Livingston and full time football well if it was your boy I don't think you would have been to happy if the club had stood in his way and let's be honest the club has never been one to stop boys moving on to full time football, and he would have left at the end of the season anyway,so why not get something for him rather than nothing, also bearing in mind he would not have been very happy with us having been held back so surely it was better all round to let him move on, and as for John well he is a bit of an enigma totally unplayable on his day but they are very few and far between and no harm to him but he is really in the twilight of his career ,so yes maybe he could have done us a turn till the end of the season i don't think it would have been too much longer than that, taking into account his injury problems with his ankles.

No, I'm all for players moving on to bigger and better things - that's the type of club we are. However feel we are going backwards in terms of ambition. We also do not have our finger on the pulse to encourage people through the gates, in what is economically hard times.Ive supported the rovers long enough, to have seen both sides of the coin -just calling it as I see it - an opinion

Nick, perhaps if there was better communication from the Trust there would not apparently negative posts like this thread. I rant on about this regularly but it is months since there was any minutes of meetings, or even just a `match` report from folks who were there - I live nearly 300 miles away so attending Trust meetings is not an option. As I have said elsewhere players come and go, that will always be the case, but we face a difficult run in which hopefully will see us retain our League One spot, made harder by having a squad so small we cannot fill all the team and sub places . I just see echoes of Paul Martin`s last season in charge - and its aftermath.

Alright Stephen hopefully and having met our new commercial man at the meeting that can maybe change a wee bit as I say the club and the board are trying to explore many avenues to improve gates but it's the old chestnut with the draw of Celtic as you know but if you have any ideas to improve this get on board and join the trust you will be made very welcome and really the chairman and board members are very approachable after all any ideas will be more than appreciated and certainly keep posting on here because if we all had the same opinion it would be a very boring place !

Hi guys,
First of what I hope are many posts and hope you're all well this evening. Glad to have the opportunity to talk Rovers as as you can imagine, that's fairly restricted amongst my fellow townsfolk!!
A few good points made throughout this topic and I certainly understand people's concern about our suddenly worrisome league position and bow to the opinion of those who attend more than I do. Having said that, I'm surprised at the lack of faith and loyalty to the manager and players given how much they've achieved in the past year.
It's tempting to press the panic button but I think they've earned our patience. Though I do think that, should we stay up, this summer must see a vastly different approach to recruitment than last.
Although disappointed to lose Josh Mullin, I'd like to see the club use this situation as a selling point to talented, ambitious players playing in the fringes of Scottish Football as we've shown we can be a catalyst to a that full-time contract as well as taking advantage of our location in densely-populated West Central Scotland.

Lots of interesting points above and it is good to see people commenting about the Rovers. The aim this season was to remain in League One and then establish ourselves at least at that level: that remains our short and mid term target. We also are doing all we can to establish ourselves as community club and Tony McMinn and Patrick Rolink and others have made significant strides in that area. The appointment of an experienced commercial manager shows the BOD is serious about bringing new streams of revenue into the club. Regarding players: 2 have gone and 3 have come in. Overall the decisions about the players leaving were the correct ones and the club wishes them both well for the season and their future careers. There were 4 BOD members at the Trust meeting last week and 16 Trust members: there was a tangible feeling of working together for the good of the club: not a feeling that was evident a few years ago.We are going through a sticky patch on field by I'm confident Darren and the team will turn things round.

I started following rovers when the pay what you can season ticket scheme was introduced, myself and my 2 sons soon got hooked on the team with there never say die attitude and incredible will to win. We were season ticket holders at another team in Glasgow before this, we were so enthralled by the way in which the title was won last season we purchased full season tickets for this season and pinned our loyalty to the Rovers as our team. We have enjoyed this so far but for a bit of bad luck bad weather and the odd bad game we would probably still be 3rd. I have been disgusted this week with some of the rubbish I have read on this forum coming from so called fans, that I decided to put in my opinion [a word overly used on this forum] Albion Rovers are making a real go of things in League 1 better than I had expected considering there squad size budget, so they let Gemmell go a man who doesn't want to be there and I have that on good authority, Mullin joins a club who he has already signed a precontract{shows his loyalty] to the Rovers. Darren brings in 3 players 2 from the league above and 1 very promising and talented product of our youth team. And suddenly were selling the crown jewels. I used to follow a team that in fact did that, I don't see that at the San Siro.

Hi macrover, Good post and glad to see I wasn't the only new fan through the door thanks to the initiative last season. It truly was a breath of fresh air to support a team of genuine pros who showed such character and a club determined to do things the right way. Glad I'm not the only one who caught the bug! And though it might not have been a great success financially, hopefully we - and others who kept on their support - are the silver lining.

Imagine discussing league 2 preparations when we're sitting 7th in the league. Bit early to discuss relegation......get behind the team. Talking like this will give the lads low morale ffs. WE WON'T BE IN LEAGUE 2 next year.
