Good points made by macrover, but I know as many people not attending Cliftonhill due to current prices.Im a season ticket holder and this forum is all about opinions - and many good and thoughtful ones have been made today.I don't doubt many people behind the scenes are working hard to rectify and improve matters at the club, but I remain sceptical until proven otherwise

Hi guys, First of what I hope are many posts and hope you're all well this evening. Glad to have the opportunity to talk Rovers as as you can imagine, that's fairly restricted amongst my fellow townsfolk!! A few good points made throughout this topic and I certainly understand people's concern about our suddenly worrisome league position and bow to the opinion of those who attend more than I do. Having said that, I'm surprised at the lack of faith and loyalty to the manager and players given how much they've achieved in the past year. It's tempting to press the panic button but I think they've earned our patience. Though I do think that, should we stay up, this summer must see a vastly different approach to recruitment than last. Although disappointed to lose Josh Mullin, I'd like to see the club use this situation as a selling point to talented, ambitious players playing in the fringes of Scottish Football as we've shown we can be a catalyst to a that full-time contract as well as taking advantage of our location in densely-populated West Central Scotland. Great post Inverclyderover - agree let's keep thinking about the positives.

Stephen 71 what do you have to be sceptical about? your team are champions, they have improved the squad this week. The only problem I see is the lack of loyalty from the so called fans who claim to be fans and forget to go and follow there team,

Stephen one thing that cannot be questioned about Rovers supporters is loyalty and think the nub of your argument is don't drop the ball or before we know it we're back in League 2. Supporting Rovers ain't easy and the things that don't seem to change is the uninterested people of Coatbridge, the lack of money at the club and the increasing costs to keep the old lady "Cliftonhill " maintained. Some perspective though. If you had offered me our current position at the start of the season given we were red hot relegation fodder it would be bite the hand off you time. There is a slight worry over our current financial status- after we got the Scottish cup money circa £200k of debt had to be paid off plus a former Director who allegedly had a £50k debt was paid. The Board have stated that their priority was to keep the club in Coatbridge- the ground improvements have proved that. I have supported the club for the best part of 39 years - it's always a struggle - things aren't handed to us on a plate and it has relied on a few masochists behind the scenes giving up their free time. But when it's good and let's face it following the Rovers in the last 6-7 years in what I can only describe as a golden age for the club- it's been good. We have gained promotion twice, once as champions- the first post war Rovers team to stay up and a quarter final appearance for the first time since 1934 which included two unforgettable games against Motherwell and Rangers- and we should have been Rangers. This team can stay up - I think we need two more wins to ensure that - that would be some achievement

Stephen i dont think your loyalty to the Rovers is in question, but you refer to the many fans who dont go as though you agree with them. I dont think its over priced to pay £14 to watch League 1 football at the rovers, its good value. I took my Grandchildren to the Cinema on Saturday it cost me £10 to get in and £5 pounds for each the kids for a movie an hour and a half long to watch. I didnt recall to many of the parents in the cinema complain about having to pay for there kids. Rovers fans need to get a bit of prespective and start following the team, and stop complaining.

(or from our new Commercial Manager, a guy with a proven track record of boosting club finances). Excuse my ignorance but can anyone shed any light on this proven track record? I have noticed a few people have been saying this but I (as I am sure others are thinking the same) am a wee bit sceptical as I would think if someone was boosting a football clubs finances (especially a club like killie who I believe have been having financial difficulties) then why would they let him leave. Or is it a case of their loss our gain...

Paul, Tommy now divides his time between Killie and Rovers. A quick search on the internet (or a chat with Tommy himself) should reassure you of his track record and credentials.

Josh agreed a pre contract with Livy - Livy came back and said can we have the player now - Rovers gave a price and Livy matched it.... (I thought they were skint btw ?? ) what else could they do - ? I'm not even commenting on John - that's all been said. Twitter / Facebook - The club have over 7,000 followers. I work in a marketing department that would be over the moon with that figure - for a football club so small as ours. the volunteers who update the twitter, facebook page do it when they can - which is way more than some clubs. This also goes for the website match reports, player interviews etc. etc....
People's time is the most important thing here. We don't have enough people helping out - so the ones who do are running on dry, I along with others have been helping out for years and to be honest its a hard gig sometimes, one I've stepped away from in the past but with no one else coming forward - I've found myself back helping out - something I love doing btw - but believe me when you spend two nights a week into the early hours designing stuff, fixing hacked websites etc etc... anyway.
Facebook - yup defo something to improve on but the guys are posting loads on there - the club posts a video and people moan ! the club doesn't post a video and the people moan ! Great idea about posters - something the club have done in the past and just about to do again - volunteers will be sticking these up - the more the merrier btw ! Come along to a Trust meeting and lend a hand and ideas.
oh... where have Ally and Mick commented about no development ?
a few other points:
Rovers TV - another great idea - sorry I may be sounding like a broken record here but If anyone knows someone who can do this in their spare time give the club a shout, I'm sure they love to hear from you. Film, edit, commentate etc... its another people v skills issue + ultimately cash - the company last years who filmed a few games and interviews etc was £££.
Pretty sure the club are still suffering from John Devlin's pay what you want season ticket which seems to have caused way more problems than it was worth.
Also wee note - dropped my son off at the Rovers football academy today - was really busy and he loved it - back again tomorrow and Wednesday.
Finally I'd like to think the club can look at the kids prices again.

This has been a good thread and some great points made. Teekasules post above is a good read and highlights the reality of running a club like the rovers. I dare say its a lot of hard work, probably thankless at times, and the only reward is it ticks the club over for a bit. Even the biggest critic should remember that.
As for Josh leaving, thats in all honesty a no brainer. Livingston are a bigger club than us, play in a higher division (for now) and he will get a bigger contract. The club had nothing to gain by stopping him moving. You hear it at the highest level that its pointless keeping a player that wants to leave, and if we got a few quid then fair enough.
I do see the Gemmell situation differently. Its pretty sad that it came to the point that a) he wanted to leave and b) we were happy to leave, especially with us not exactly having an abundance of goalscorers. That's definitely not the case. However to date, the manager has done well and deserves the fans backing with his decisions, although on the choices up front at times I'm not a huge fan.
My only gripe with the club would be the admission prices. On the last day of the season I was talking to some guys who come now and again. It was rumoured that the prices would be increased to £14, and their reaction was they wouldn't be back. Sure, other clubs in the division charge similar, but Coatbridge has always been a difficult place to come along and at £14 it seems that the casual punter won't bother and with admissions this year it looks like thats the case. People in my situation bring along a kid or 2 have seen prices rise from £10 last year to £18 or £23 this year and when you consider thats a 80% or 130% increase its just ridiculous. Many made their opinions clear on the old site and nothing altered so fair enough the club appear to not care too much. I've been to a handful of games this year and am not ashamed to say I've found other things to do with my Saturday and limited spare cash. Add to that the winters are grim and the games are always likely to be called off also.
Folk shouldn't be overly critical though, there have been initiatives like the academy (mentioned above) which will get the clubs name out there, and the reality is staying in the division was always going to be hard, maybe expectations should reflect that rather than play off type comments which to me always seemed pretty optimistic. Results to date have indicated the manager knows what he's doing, but equally folk are entitled to their opinions. Not everyone is right all the time.
