I said it would happen in another thread. The season has just finished and already there are those on this forum who have us dead and buried for the new one.
It really drives me to despair when I come on here for an update on all things Rovers to read all the hand wringing, the 'oh we're all doomed' comments that seem to abound every post season.
So I'm going to buck the trend. I already can't wait for the new season and there is a lot to loo forward to,
For one, a new manager who sounds up for the job. has a wealth of knowledge playing at a higher level but with little experience of management.....sound familiar? .. the last guy with that pedigree didn't do such a bad job.
Oh we haven't any players as there all leaving.....that old chestnut. Was it not the case a few years ago we were weeks away from the start of a new season and we hardly had a squad, once again they didn't do to badly. The last time we didn't even have a youth team to try and get players from
'Oh dear we'll struggle cause no one comes to watch us'.....I've been supporting the Rovers for as long as my memory will let me, (I'm 59 this year), Its always been like that. no bugger in Coatbridge seems to give a jot about us but somehow through all these years there has always been a small hard core of people who support the team, we have survived on lower crowds than we are getting just now and knowing two of the guys on the board I'm fairly certain they wont let things run away on a financial front. Hopefully the Trust can get the proposed lottery up and running as I'm pretty sure that'll bring in cash. The good burgers of Coatbridge may not like the Rovers but, unless they have changed in the years since I flitted, they do like a flutter.
'Oh without all the players from last season we might get Relegated'......that one really gets on my goat. So what!! Regardless of what league we are in we are still Albion Rovers. yeh it would be great to get promoted next season, and why not as our new boss said that's his target, but is it really the end of the world if we happen to go the other way.
I have never supported the Rovers because I think they are going to be the best team in the land, I support them because that's the team my dad took me to see as a young lad and like my dad and his they became my team too. Regardless of what league they are in they will always be my team.
Apologies for the rant but there are plenty of other things outside of the Rovers that can get you down, so please lets look forward to the new season with some more positivity than some of you are at present
