Gus to jump up and down like a madman, wave his arms around like he's pretending to be a windmill, steppimg out of the technical area onto the pitch and kicking all the water bottles over before half time. I know it is a fait accompli, but please tell me this is how it transpired! Great result, well done to everyone! Yes DH, pretty much as per usual for Gus. What really made me laugh today was this...... Don't know if you've seen the Still Game (I think it is?) sketch where the football manager is coaching the team from the sidelines and the assistant coach just copies everything the manager does? That was like today!! Gus was front and centre of course, with at least one foot on the field of play most of the time. Some other apprentice rocket was behind him kind of mimicking everything he did! Just appealed to my warped sense of humour.

That's a solid 3 points away from home and gets our points tally wracked up- pity we lost a 2nd goal but can't grumble too much.
Thought big Perry was better today for no other reason than he chose row Z instead of trying to play football- it's quite scary when he tries to play football.
Good positive stuff from Shields and McManus when he came on. The 3 rd goal was the pick of the bunch for me.

I thought some were going OTT about Shields recently and how we might not keep him for long but his second half performance was terrific. The way he robbed QP (admittedly cumbersome) defenders to create chances on a number of occasions in the second half was very impressive, and something I don't remember seeing from a Rovers forward for a long time. A number of other possibilities for MOTM too (Howard, Reid, Perry, Fisher, Trouten?): all in all an encouraging performance. A couple of very good saves from their keeper prevented an even more convincing scoreline.

What annoys me more than anything is that Shields was with us last season but never got a look in! When you think of the injuries we had to the likes of Wallace and the general fact we couldn't buy a goal at times then it's criminal Shields didn't get a game. As a young guy he needs careful handling and development - and it's still very early days; but it's clear he's got talent.

Agree with all the comments on yesterday's game.
Great attacking/passing football from the guys on the big Hampden pitch.
In Connor Shields and Alan Trouten we appear to have a very potent strike force. Reckon they'll both hit 20+ goals this season.
QP were pretty bad however we took full advantage with our style of play.
Onwards and upwards indeed!

What annoys me more than anything is that Shields was with us last season but never got a look in! Really? I thought he played quite a bit last season albeit off the bench and not in the central role which he prefers. On those occasions he failed to impress and for me was always well behind Wallace and Stewart. This season he looks like a completely different player - I think the EK game was key - you could see the confidence growing with each of his three goals that day and he's taken that forward into his league form. I thought he was MoM yesterday ( although I think that went to Trouten) and last week was excellent off the bench against Ayr. From what I've seen so far he should be ahead of Victoria for a starting berth - but I suspect that Joao would have started yesterday had he been fit.

From memory he was on the bench just about every week and more often than not would feature at some point. You're also correct that it appears Darren Young was playing him out of position, he would most often be out on the right wing, albeit in a more forward position.
In any case he's now finding his feet and we are reaping the rewards

Okay, so instead of saying "never got a look in", I'll rephrase it. Shields got the thrill of aimlessly warming up to make a cameo appearance at the end of some games when he was played out of position by a manager who's idea of 'going for it' was to put our ageing centre half through the middle, and when we were probably well beaten in any event and had sat back in our own half for the vast majority of the game without hint of an attacking threat (think Mark Ferry)........... Yep, I'm much happier with that.

All in the past!! This season will be much more thrilling. 18 goals in 6 games! I quite fancy winning 5-2 or 4-3 every week!
