0-1 for Stranraer and Fisher sent off. Clydebank in 4th (GD -5), Rovers 5th (GD -6) by one in the goal difference. Look out for Brechin, Forfar and Cowdenbeath, bit of a charge coming from the bottom.

Bad day at the office, rovers played well today, but lady luck wasn't on our side... lady luck must have had the whistle!!! Could someone tell me why fisher was sent off after we had the ball into their box and setting up a goal scoring chance. Ref brought play back...Strange??

Well the good news is Stranraer aren't better than us. No way. Just another big physical side with plenty of savvy to take advantage of a weak referee and linesmen. We were the better side and playing very well until they scored. You can't really legislate for an individual mistake like that and we really lost our way after the goal. Back on top in the second half but got increasingly frustrated by the referee and the linesmen - that pair might as well not have been there. Apart from not seeing fouls there was feigning injury, time wasting and stealing about 10 yards every time they got a free kick. It came to a head with Fisher's sending off. He gets tackled about thigh height and doesn't get a free kick. Still, getting sent off for something you say to the referee is crazy. That said, Stranraer players were mouthy all match and the referee did nothing but as soon as a Rovers player opened their mouth they were booked. Hope the heads stay up, just one of those days let's put it behind us. Next week looking a lot tougher than it did a few weeks ago so we'll need to be on it. Really want to go into Airdrie game on the back of a good win.

Fairly ordinary game today. Not much between the two sides over the piece. Stranraer got the goal that mattered and it's all getting rather interesting for that final play off place.
When the teams came out before kick off the Rovers players went into a wee huddle in the centre of the park. No idea what that was all about but as long as they are happy....... We'd also ditched our home strip again for the black away kit. Didn't seem to be any obvious clash with Stranraer but then again I am colour blind so what do I know?
Stranraer probably had the best of the opening 10 - 15 minutes with most of the action taking place in our half. Not really surprising as we lacked a wee bit of punch up front. Fish wore number 9 today and played a bit further forward than usual. Talu had Fish's number 4 jersey on and took his place in front of the back 4. So we were solid if unspectacular. And we lacked any obvious out ball.
Stranraer had the first real chance when they won a free kick. Fish tried to flick the ball over a Stranraer player but didn't quite make it. Georgiev kind of hesitated as if he didn't fancy the challenge much and the ball sort of hit his arm. So a free kick to Stranraer and they fairly tested Ross in goal with it. Good save. Stranraer then had a few corners and in truth we dealt well with them compared to previous weeks. We just couldn't get out of our own half and stay out. Mark McGuigan caused us a few problems and I was pleased to see he hasn't lost the habit of jumping for a header and ducking at the same time. That always tickled me.
As the first half wore on we came into it much more and started to exert a bit of pressure on Stranraer. A decent move saw the ball played to Fish some 25 yards out. He hit a cracking shot which beat the keeper all ends up but unfortunately for us rattled back off the crossbar. The rebound fell to Ally and he got a shot in under a bit of pressure and although the keeper made a bit of a meal of it, he saved it well.
We had a few more chances after that. Talu hit a shot over the bar and then McBride had a great chance to score. The ball got played over the top and McBride found himself through with just the keeper to beat, but with the defender closing in on him. He got a shot away but it was straight at the keeper and he saved well. Similar to Talu's effort, the chance fell to McBride on his left foot. Things might have been different if they had managed to get shots away with their right.
And then disaster struck. A long through ball should have been dealt with by Mick. Mark McGuigan had been really lazy in coming back from an offside position and I think he distracted Mick. Nevertheless Mick tried to head the ball back to the keeper and it was a really poor header in truth. The ball fell to Mark and I don't think he could believe he was onside. He seemed to take ages to go round the keeper and almost ran the ball out of play. Even them he seemed to be looking for a flag or the whistle to blow but it didn't. Just as the ball seemed to run away from him he squared it across the goal and the guy finished from close range.
So 1-0 and giving a dire referee the benefit of the doubt I am sure he knows the offside rule better than me. So the goal stood and it was an absolute injustice. We created another few half chances before the break but couldn't score.
Into the second half and the game was a pretty dour midfield battle for the most part. As the half wore on the referee seemed to lose the plot and in trying to let the game flow, let a few niggly fouls go. With about 20 mins left Fish went in for a 50:50 ball. Both players feet were high-ish and Fish came off worst. He didn't get up after the tackle but the game carried on with us on the attack. Fish got up and limped towards the referee and I presume let off a volley of expletives. For no sooner were the words out of his mouth when the referee pulled out the red card and sent him straight off. So a bit of an over reaction from both player and official but if that is what happened then the ref really had no choice. To be fair to Fish he was only telling the ref what the rest of us were thinking. But to be sent off for that is inexcusable.
After that an already poor referee had a bit of a meltdown. He seemed to book everyone from then on in, in fact I may be the only person inside the stadium who didn't get a card today. Clown.
Even down to 10 men we looked the more likely team to score. A corner from the right was played to the back post where it was headed back across the face of the goal. It fell to Ally and his header crashed off the cross bar. Sooooooooo close!!!
We pushed Mick up front towards the end and threw everything forward. The ball fell to Mick inside the box and he took a nice touch before getting a shot away that was blocked. We finished the game strongly but couldn't get the goal we deserved.
So not the best game and certainly not the best result. Ross Dunlop won man of the match and he had a good game today. He's a good player. I would have given it to Ross Davidson who I thought had a great game today. His distribution was good and he never hides. He's always looking for the ball and has a good football brain. In fact I would have given it to Fish if the award had been mine to make. Just to get it right up the referee.
Crowd was 408 today - exactly the same as last week after our Strongbow-loving character had been ejected. There were a few teenagers in today, obviously taking advantage of the £1 entry. Remains to be seen if they keep coming back.
So now 2 wins in 13. It's not play off position form ......... but we find ourselves in the play off positions or at least thereabouts! Seems everyone around us is in a similar position so there still is a lot to play for. We did well in spells today but we still lack a decent goal scorer that would make all the difference. I dare say the sides around us would all say the same.

The referee was bad, much worse than the normal poor standard we endure. The Stand side linesman was equally as bad, several incidents in which he had the clearest and best view, and yet , he faied to make a call. The red card would never have happened if the ref and linesman had stopped the match after a brutal lunge on Fisher. The referee was card happy, ppetulant and gave oof an air of disinterest in the proceedings, frankly, I hope there was a supervisor in the Stand as he will surely get promoted after that performance, and move out of our league. There was very little between both teams, the league positions show that, we had the better chances , they had the luck and an unusual mistake from our defence, not a god day at the office but not a bad one, but no one can doubt the effort and committment of teh lads.

Cheated by a cheat of a referee who I fully believe knew the laws of the game and just refused to properly enforce them.

A game that will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. A suicidal back pass (sh*t happens), missed chances (nae luck), a shameful oscar performance by a fat goalie, said goalie saving Loveys's shot with his fat backside, A shocking studs in challenge going unpunished (silly red card but understandable) and finally a disgustingly bias performance once again by Mr Charleston (Dirty Cheat!). The type of game that puts you off football.

We should be 6 points ahead of Airdrie. If we hung on against Peterhead and won the day.... We can't seem to take advantage of the situation. Thank heavens Danny lennon took the Airdrie job temporary ? Brechin..3 wins on the bounce now...we NEED to beat them or our playoff chances could be finished.

Never got to the game yesterday, thank God now after reading the above posts. Charleston and Walsh in my opinion are the worst referees in the league.

Thought the boys looked a bit jaded, but we really should have got something from the game, a draw was easily there for the taking, but there was no way the ref was giving us anything and to have the amount of bookings in the game that we had was totally ridiculous in what was not a bad tempered game ,remember this is the same ref that sent of Ciaran and gave a penalty to,Clyde when the challenge wasn't even in the box and to be honest I spoke to a friend who is a Motherwell supporter and he said he gave some bizarre decisions against them, this ref is either totally incompetent or he is a cheat , no other way I can put this, and i hope the club make a complaint against having this ref doing one of our games again, and if he does we should all get down the bookies and bet against the Rovers cause there is no way we will be winning the game, fortunately the results elsewhere helped and we are still in there pitching for a play off though next week will be very tricky against what seems to be a rejuvenated Brechin then the derby the following week where hopefully we can settle a few scores still all to play for cmon the VERS .

Just read through all the views on yesterday's game - it seems the referee had a big part to play in proceedings.
I see their goal was down to an error from Mick Dunlop(unlike him).
It's still very tight in the chase for 4th place.
Let's stuff Brechin again next week to keep the play-offs charge on track!!!

very frustrating day with the fattest footballer since Mark Yardley playing in goal for Stranraer, he was there motm - he was also a bit of a time wasting d&ick - but hey ho. ref was rubbish but If you have 8 shots on target in a game you'd expect to take something from a match. Really tough few weeks coming up. Hopefully the week 'off' will benefit the tired squad. Fisher out for two games or one ? Also when do the loanees go back ? Tee
