I feel for the players and management - but it’s going to be a long, long season if we don’t add some experience to our ranks. There were some decent wee spells over the 90, but as alluded to by Bucky, it was men against boys for the most part. Real danger that we could be the whipping boys. Defence very ropey and lacking leadership. Aitken does look decent, but limited service will breed frustration. Onwards... I suppose a positive is that despite taking a pummeling early on the team were still in the game for the last 20 mins and did create chances. The worry is that had Queens taken their chances it could have been a real sore one. Saturday is a massive game and will give a better indication of where team are in comparison to the rest of the league.

I think theres some decent players at the club from the evidence of the games ive watched.
The problem for me is, the way the team goes out in terms of formation and what the players actually DO within the formation doesnt lend itself to getting a result.
I created a thread about it called "The issue as i see it".
In many ways i think experience is an overrated quality. Its not experience in of itself that is usually an issue when players are good enough.
I could add more thoughts but I dont think many people were interested in my thread.

Are you Brendan Rodgers wee brother mate?I think Rovers could take inspiration from the way Rodgers set Leicester up in the Man City and Arsenal matches.

I’m not sure that the analytical way that you’ve approached it lends itself to a forum of this nature. I maybe wrong but I thinks people just want to have a simplistic opinion on what’s right and what’s wrong, in their opinion, without needing to have a degree from Oxbridge or a UEFA pro coaching licence (that you may have). Simples!👍🏼😀

I dont think im saying anything particularly ground breaking or reinventing the wheel, all im saying is:
1) If Rovers attempt more shorter passes (not saying forget long balls all together, just play less of them and play them selectively) then the Rovers team mates will be closer together on the pitch, which will mean the midfield can support the front players more effectively
2) If the players are closer together when they lose the ball, they will have a higher chance of recovering possession because the lines of the team wont be so strung out (the space between defence to midfield to forward line)
3) By having too high of a tempo, it pressures Aitken too much to hold the ball to wait for support from behind him, which makes it hard to recover second balls and much harder on the player himself. Also means the opposition can cut off his options more easily. So it leads to unnecessary turnovers of possession.
The long ball is a good ball to use in transition when possession is recovered because
1) The opposition havent recovered their shape yet, so there may be space behind the opposition that the ball can be dropped into for a willing runner
2) The threat of a quick transition will make the opponent less likely to want to commit bodies forward into attack and risk leaving space behind them
3) It can instantly cut out opposition players who may try and press high to immediately recover possession.
Im sorry if people would rather not read footballing based opinion, and ill be quiet. I thought this was exactly the kind of forum like foxestalk where fans like to get heavy about their team. If its not, i apologise and wont continue to.

All valid points from weeroversnewbie and as welcome as any other opinion. Hopefully you'll forgive me if I go for the less prosaic and probably unhelpful "we were sh*te"!

The positive from both league games so far is despite being behind the team didn't give up. Perhaps due to youthful exuberance or early season optimism, who knows. A win this Saturday would give them a massive boost and I think it will happen, though I may be suffering from early season optimism as it's certainly not youthful exuberance 😂😂

Ah, youthful exuberance! The mind is still willing but the body... 😬

Definitely entitled to post this style of piece but when I read things like this I always think of the phrase paralysis by analysis! Ronnie

Holy smokes, weeroversnewbie, you’ve been spending far too much time studying those wee moving draughts on Football Manager. This isn’t the Premier League, it’s third tier Scottish (part-time) football. The game just isn’t the same as it is down South. You could say the same tactical rules apply, but that wouldn’t be accurate. We simply don’t have the time (or the finances) to forensically examine every minute detail of a game with the playing staff. We need experience, grit, and a proven goalscorer. That should see us good.
