Your info usually top notch David so I’m happy with that He signed a 18 month contract - but as we know he will be off to another club in Jan, the only positive will be we get a few quid ( thats if he is fit of course ! ). What an utter embarrassment that result was. This will be the biggest budget we will have - no 'big' cup games at the start of next season less parachute payment. As sam has mentioned - start of the season we were playing brilliant football. It's all went pete tong fast. Cowdenbeath were in the League Cup this season so Rovers should be in it next season. I'm assuming you still get to play in it in your second season out of L2.

No there are 3 spots in league cup winners of highland Winners in lowland The third spot is given alternatively between the leagues so next year is highland, nobody understands why it was given to Cowdenbeath this season

Cut from the SPFL Rules and Regulations as per their current web pages
Participants in the League Cup 4.2 The Competition shall be contested by: 4.2.1 all Clubs in the League in the relevant Season; and 4.2.2 such other club(s), if any, identified by the Board. The Board may, if it considers appropriate in any Season or Seasons, alter/vary whether any of the classes of participant Clubs or clubs identified in this Regulation shall be invited to and shall participate in the Competition in any one or more Seasons and to make such changes to the rounds of the Competition and the balloting for such rounds as it shall consider appropriate. If the structure and/or participants in rounds and/or categories or numbers of participants in the Competition and/or rounds of the Competition shall be altered by the Board then the Board shall give written notice of such change(s) to all Clubs and any other person or club with an interest therein.
So, it appears that there there is no specific rule as to the 40th club to participate. The runners up in the Lowland League East Kilbride, then the runners up in the Highland League Buckie Thistle, were invited in for the 21/22 and 22/23 competitions. That situation was created by drawing of lots and as East Kilbride won the draw for 21/22, the 22/23 position went to the Highland League team. However, for some bizarre reason, Cowdenbeath, relegated season 21/22 and who finished 15th in the Lowland League in 22/23 were invited to take part in the 23/24 competition. You couldn't make that up, but somebody obviously did!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, to put it in a nutshell, the parachute payment will be reduced by 50% next season, and without a fairy godmother like the one who selected Cowdenbeath this season, there will be no funds coming from participation in the League Cup next season.
If that is in fact the outcome, where is the club going? To hell in a handcart might be an appropriate summation.

Not sure about it being a meaningless competition. It was a competition where we could and should have progressed. The league is already burst and barring a miraculous turn around in our fortunes we will soon be out of the Scottish. The novelty of visiting new grounds and subsidised buses will come to an end and then what is left for the fans ? I agree. No such thing as a meaningless competition. How many trophies have Albion Rovers won during their 120+ years. These players had every chance of getting their hands on the South Challenge Cup and they blew it.. They could have gone down in history as cup winners with this club. 100% agree with this.

If you can stomach it here are the "highlights". Have to say I'm not entirely convinced by the awarding of the penalty and they just don't show the very dodgy refereeing at the first attempted taking of said penalty.
