I see that Rovers wont have to wait too long for confirmation whether or not we shall be invited to participate in next seasons Premier Sports Cup (known as the Viaplay Cup last season) as the draw for the competition takes place on 29th May. The competition kicks off on Sat 13th July and I'd say Rovers have very little chance of being in this cup but the rewards of getting on for £30k and attractive games with large attendances outweigh any the undoubted inconvenience of having to delay the start of out LL campaign.

Our inclusion in the 2023/2024 League Cup was, at the time, a real lifesaver for the Club.
Cliftonhill was full v Kilmarnock (1,200+) and over 800 bodies were at the Dunfermline game. Pair that with our performance v Annan and a decent showing (and crowd) v Raith Rovers at Starks Park.
I think if we’re all really honest, the days of bumper crowds are over for now. I noticed another poster scoff at the circa 650 who turned out to see East Kilbride v Tranent in the LL Cup final. I hate to say it, I doubt we’d have took more. There’s a delusion amongst our core support that we’re bigger than we are and it doesn’t serve us well at all.
The financial impact of being left out of the League Cup far outweighs any perceived/apparent advantage of making an early start to our League campaign.

I haven’t seen or heard of any delusion amongst the support. A mixture of forced positivity about playing at new grounds and trying to grasp the reality at best I would say. I think everyone knows it is going to be very, very, very difficult to get back into L2.
The previous Board did their best but their dysfunction in operating did not do Albion Rovers FC any favours. I’m sure there’s been plenty of self reflection for each individual.

Cowdenbeath were invited last year, as the most recent SPL side…… Think handshakes were had for them to get in... Yes, a bit of a surprise that Cowdenbeath got an invite last season, but was not to do with them having a known ground that met some sort of standard. Was at Tranent, 0-1 triumph with 10 men, was that the ground where there was building debris lying around the terracing, and the terracing itself was a bit of a trip hazard being uneven, could they be asked in? Not having a go at Tranent, just making the point that if higher league reams are being asked to visit Lowland league sides then there would be a standard expected. If EK or Brechin (could be caught by Buckie Thistle) go up, a League 2 side comes down, Stranraer currently last, they presumably would get a place, who gets the other spot? Anytime I look at the Lowland League table on the BBC, it sticks out that Rovers and Cowdenbeath names are in bold. Is there any significance in that? What Rovers need to do now is make sure that we finish ahead of Cowdenbeath, only 2 points behind us, we have 2 games in hand, to, perhaps, get the wild card place. Cliftonhill has some issues but is a known ground. We might get the wild card this coming season, although it might be the Highland League's turn. Finish ahead of Cowdenbeath for the chance.

That was Bo'ness Brian, Rovers have never played at Tranent.

League Cup participation is based on the previous season, so whoever finishes bottom of League 2 is automatically in.
There are 3 spots available to non-league clubs, due to Scotland having 5 European representatives. The Lowland and Highland Champions, plus one other, make up the 40 clubs for the group stages.
I believe Cowdenbeath got it last year due to being the most recently relegated former SPFL club.

The third place alternates between the Highland league and Lowland league
Last season it was the Lowland league,
Cowdenbeath we're given a "special invite" rather than 2nd place team, the other Lowland league clubs got all up in arms saying it was the SPFL looking after themselves and ex clubs
In reality it was due to Cowdenbeath having a required safety license, and the other clubs being unlikely to get one in time.
This season it should be the highland league clubs who get a second place,
I Will be shocked if we are invited to take part.
