On holiday so not seeing the games so happy to stand corrected. 3 defeats doesn’t necessarily upset me, but according to stats we have managed 4 shots on target in 3 games and have definitely yet to find the net. This is worrying.

Rovers played well. Defence is miles better than last year. Look solid at least so far. Centre-half excellent.

Yes its a worry that we haven't scored a goal in these games yet, and not won a game, so lets see if we can do it in the league 2 in a few weeks.

An enjoyable wee evening in sunny Coatbridge. Thistle dominated from start to finish and were worthy winners. Rovers looked like they were set up to avoid a humping and that's fair enough given there's a couple of leagues between the teams. Confirmed I think by taking off a striker and replacing him with Fish towards the end. Definitely Fish and not Wharton, although Wharton and his somewhat impressive beard did get a run out too! In truth though, Thistle were pretty poor and I think our set up made them look even more ordinary so credit where it's due.
In the 2 games I've seen we've offered next to nothing going forward. That observation seems to be backed up by the stats arfcdm quotes. The stats don't lie, although I do love jaydee's nod to Jimmy Sanderson's: "were you at the game today?" lol. Happy memories! We had one great chance tonight where someone (maybe 7, definitely not Fish or Wharton) should have passed to someone else (again, definitely not Fish or Wharton) but elected to shoot instead.
Defence is solid enough. Potts was in goals and had one great save in the first half. Notsomuch in the second but had no chance with the goals which were smartly taken.
There's a real no nonsense approach towards clearing our lines and I quite like that. No 'pretty-passing-but-going-nowhere' on offer and again I quite like that. Midfield could get whiplash watching the ball whistle past them but I'm a fan of 'route 1' so again no complaints from me if that is how we play........ as long as it works.
The time to judge us is against the L2 teams starting soon. The first game away to Edinburgh will be a good watch. Cowdenbeath and Edinburgh have strengthened so it'll be interesting.
What I would say is that everyone tonight again put in a proper shift. There's plenty energy and closing down of opponents. Everyone looks interested, putting in blocks and tackles. You couldn't say that last season. So that's a massive improvement.
The pessimist in me (sorry Charles, Prof, jaydee) notes that last year we played our best football in the early cup games and it was kind of all downhill from there.
I might have mentioned this before, not sure, but this is still a massive gamble.

Given the successive opposition we are currently up against Ayr/ Partick and Morton - creating chances is very difficult - it gives the lads a tough testing ground which should be vital when it comes to our proper opposition from 4th August. Last year was a whirlwind which dramatically petered out. I prefer this solid no nonsense approach this time around. On the subject of tiredness , when we start to face part timers like ourselves it should be more of a level playing field i.e. All 22 players will be knackered by 70 minutes !

I was pleased that the Rovers players talked to each other a lot more during the game last night. Last season the player I heard the most on the pitch was the on loan keeper from Rangers who was only 17, how embarrassing is that. I do agree that the defence looks a lot better than last season but of course it is early days. The final ball during the game was a bit lousy but I am sure that can easily be worked on. I was also pleasantly surprised when John Brogan came out to the pitch while the players were training and looked at the crowd. I should have given him a wave or a thumbs up but was in a bit of a state of shock . I never saw Brian Kerr or Darren Young do that. Not too bothered about the result due to them being a full time team and 2 divisions up but if the rovers do make wee improvements then the potential might be good.

Just reread my post and I have to apologise, it does sound very much like Jimmy Sanderson 🙈 my intention was more that it I would be really interested to hear how arfcdm feels after watching us first hand, purely because I personally think he will be pleasantly surprised. So again apologies if it sounded like I was dismissing his post, I wasn’t.
