That was my 1st game of season and to be honest i was surprised at how half decent we were given the poor reading its been for me past few weeks. 10/10 for effort, deserved a draw and even managed some good passing at times. We badly need strikers and hopefully the return of fish can boost midfield. Hopefully starting to gel but goals and points have to come very very soon. Great summing up of today's game Andrew.

Still no official word on Fish's concussion, calf strain, falling out with the manager, broken finger nails etc etc etc. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say there's something not right there. Some might say 'fishy'? Is it just me? He's been out with concussion. Was due back today doctor hasn't signed him off will be back next week

I thought again it was an improvement.
However I will still say we wernt good. Could have been quite a few more than 1 probably 4 or 5.
The goal was a disaster for Wharton all he had to do was clear the ball

Much better performance today than previous. You could see there was much more effort from the players. With the exception of one or two kamikaze moments the defence looked fairly decent. We are however crying out desperately for a presence up front, someone that can hold a ball up. Fingers crossed we can find someone somehow to fill that gap.

Kept going for 90 mins and deserved at least a draw. Peter

He's not good enough. Need a keeper in quick he nearly cost us majorly by running out 40 yards and missing the ball only to take out a defender

Just to put it into perspective.
There have been 20 shots on target in the first half of Chelsea v arsenal.
That's more than we have managed in 8 games

Young guy in his early 20s sat in front of me seemed to kind of collapse midway through the first half. His pals helped him out his seat and then some first aiders helped him down the stairs. The club doctor was also there. Not sure what was wrong but he looked quite distressed and disorientated. He had sat with his head bent forward for a wee while and I thought at first he might have had a drink but he definitely wasn't drunk.
I saw the ambulance pulling up outside the ground at full time. If it was for him then it had taken its time getting there. Not sure if he was a Rovers fan or not; I suspect not.
Anyhoo, hope he is ok.

As for the fitba............ agree with pretty much all of the above. Much improved performance all round. I'm not quite getting the 'more effort' comments as I haven't been concerned about lack of effort so far.
We started well enough and took the game to Elgin. We created a few half chances and with some better decision making might have created some better ones! Lewis McLear needs to work out when to go alone and when to pass.
Potts had a couple of good saves and looked decent overall. But we do need a better keeper. His rush of blood when he galloped out his box should have cost us but for some terrible Elgin dithering, passing and 'shooting'. Dearie me! We also 'escaped' when the ref awarded Elgin a penalty only to change his mind after speaking to the assistant. It didn't look a penalty so fair play for changing his mind. We're due a bit of luck. Ref was okay today, tried to let the game flow.
Defensively we look decent enough. Wharton will have nightmares about the goal for a while. He took too long to clear, the ball got charged down and the Elgin striker showed some composure to unselfishly square for his pal to tap in. That was a bit unlucky to be fair. And Wharton is decent. He's trimmed about 2 feet off his beard but it's still impressive as f*ck btw.
Going forward we're not really very good. The guys all look a bit flustered - there's no real composure. The ball's a bit of a 'hot potato' if you remember that phrase from school.
We're also very adept at passing the ball backwards and behind a team mate. And we're quite ponderous in possession when it matters. Looks like a lack of confidence. We can zip passes about the back 3 or 4 fairly well but once we get over the half way line we like to take a few touches. That means we get caught in possession a fair bit and defenders get time to block shots and passes easily enough. Quite frustrating to watch and allowed Elgin to regroup constantly. We still get pushed about a bit too easily for my liking - everywhere but in defence.
Elgin dealt with everything we threw at them fairly comfortably right up until the last 5 minutes or so when we were on the front foot. If we were going to score it was probably then. But in all honesty we don't really look like scoring. Gracie created a decent chance when he turned and shot wide but that was about it.
McMahon in defence won man of the match and deservedly so. From the first whistle he was up for it and threw himself into everything. He got booked late on for a fairly industrial challenge - nice one! He does look like a player and was the stand out today.
Crowd was 275. That's not good is it? What I would say though is that they are all, including me, 100% behind the team. One or two frustrated shouts from time to time but there was a fairly generous round of applause for the team at half and full time. Contrast that with the abuse Darren Young in particular took when we were doing much better than we are now!
Overall then a decent afternoon out in a rather dreich Coatbridge. A defeat is still a defeat and Cowdenbeath will probably feel that they've done enough to survive, getting 3 points on the board lol! A draw might have been a fairer result but Elgin will probably just about feel as if they deserved their win.
The wee Oompah Loompah will fancy his chances big time at getting a result against us at Hampden next week. Would be a massive 'get it right up ye' if we could do the sweetie rustlers next week.
