If we chanted every time a goal was scored against us this season we'd be hoarse.

Ahhhhh "Fagan Out"..That old terracing favourite. I'm sure you could smell those cigars of his before you even got in the ground.

Have lost the original article but mentioned Rangers attempt to dump Rovers and 4 others in a programme article, I think for a Stenhousemuir cup tie programme, my punch line was the 5 clubs had done quite well since whereas Rangers had gone out of business!
The Daily Record carried a small article about this in their Monday edition.

Just checked my copy of The Boys from the Brig.
Front cover picture from 1961 is photograph of Rovers in action in their new strip against East Stirlinshire, Aug 12, 5-2 win, 2-1 HT, scorers - Andy McQuarrie double (on his debut), Duncan McGill (player/manager), Danny Hegan double (could have been a hat trick as he put a penalty over the bar at 2-1, ES went down to 10 men for the penalty, left half Frickleton brought down McGill). Hegan was sold to Sundeland not long into that season.
The text says that the colours were changed after 79 years of blue shirts for two reasons. There were 11 other clubs listed as blue and white in the Scottish League while 7 of the then 18 Second Division wore blue and white. Robin argues that the other clubs should have changed their colours as they were younger clubs. He suggests that the change of colours was nothing to do with Old Firm sensibilities, a possible second reason, he says the colour change did not mean any meaningful change in supporter numbers.
A story that does the rounds is that punters in Coatbridge were asked what colours Rovers should play in, I have heard green and white as the result, but also green and black, any one heard that story or variations of? And is there any truth in the story? And how/why primrose and yellow were chosen?

Hi, Brian, sorry, I can`t answer your questions, although I would agree on the point in Robin`s book that changing the colours made no difference to the numbers through the turnstiles.

That's some write up Tommy! No idea that had all taken place. Hope you kept hold of that placard Grant. Could come in useful at the agm. Just added a wee bit to my post....placard long gone btw .....54 years ago....LOL....maybe folks will realise how passionate I am about the club and its future. Remember the time too, when Tommy Fagan got rid of manager Ralph Brand there was demonstrations against him and his board, particularly up at Stirling Albion, the first match after Ralphie resigned. TF came out and remonstrated with us...one guy Andy G...even challenged TF to a `square go`. Now, when our very existence is at stake it`s all quiet. Changed days indeed. Grant, being one of the group doing the chanting I can remember Auld Tom getting out the directors box in answer to Wee Andys proposal and was dragged back by his fellow directors. Also mind I got a row of my dad when I got back to the house for disrespecting Tommy, as you know my dad did a lot of work with the catering at the ground so felt I shouldn’t have got involved

Me too, Sam, I was running the match programme at the time and had `the run of the place`...the following week I got pulled aside by Director Pat Reilly and told that in my position he `felt I should not have got involved`. That was the last time I was in Stirling albion`s old ground Annfield where the dressing rooms were in an old `mansion` house behind the stand. Think Auld Tam banned the supporters lub from having their meetings at Cliftonhill as well.

The Admiral badges on the "Franchetti" kit made the rough nylon of the shirt rock hard and rough as sandpaper on the inside giving 10-year old me my first experience of chafed nipples.
The shorts weren't much better which is why the only surviving picture of me in the shirt sees it paired with Liverpool shorts instead.

The white "Franchetti" Admiral strip was actually the white Man United strip from about 1977 with the Rovers badge sewn over the Man Utd one.
I know this as I found a bag of them when going home from a game. They had been dumped behind the old car park and were strips that had been ripped etc.
This was obviously in the days before Albion Rovers was an eco friendly Club.
